Mettler-Toledo AutoChem, which is headquartered in Columbia, MD, is seeking a Technology and Application Consultant (TAC).

As a Technology & Application Consultant (TAC) in the area of Particle System Characterization (PSC) you will use your enthusiastic and convincing nature to increase the adoption and utilization of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and Automated Laboratory Reactors (ALR) in the pharmaceutical, high value chemicals and biologics industry. In collaboration with world-leading scientists you will develop scientific evidence for PAT application feasibility, provide advanced, in-depth application support, attend international conferences and proactively support scientists & managers with the PAT investment process. As a recognized expert in the application of PAT and ALR, you will establish a strong peer based relationship with scientists and engineers in your assigned territory and develop healthy, sustainable growth-oriented business relationships. TAC should able to I) structure work-tasks with minimal supervision, II) visualize and extract information from complex scientific data, III) effectively communicate scientific data and IV) able to work closely with colleagues in Account Management, the Bio-Team, Product Development, Software & Service team and TACs of other PAT technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop deep PAT & ALR application knowledge to serve as a recognized expert for process development and optimization.

• Proactively connect with scientists in relevant industries, identified through customer meetings, conferences, web-search or social media to build a strong industrial and academic network.

• Thoroughly understand application process challenges and demonstrate with new or existing scientific evidence (experience, publications, application notes) how PAT & ALR can help develop more efficient processes.

• Perform on-site or virtual Application Feasibility Tests (AFT) with customers to create new scientific evidence that PAT & ALR are essential to overcome current customer process challenges.

• Generate excitement about METTLER TOLEDO process development platforms and convince scientists & managers with scientific and economical evidence to invest into PAT & ALR.

• In a collaborative approach with Account Management, lead promising sales opportunities to a successful close.

• Carry out continuous support activities (technical consulting, data analysis, seminars, trainings, visits) to increase the adoption of PAT & ALR and leading to repeat sales.

• Screen and analyze the field for complementary and competitive technology and provide valuable feedback to the Product Development team.

• Perform timely capture of field activities in the internal database.

• Create and present technical papers about key applications at industry seminars, conferences and symposiums and transfer of knowledge and data from application feasibility studies, industrial and academic applications and technical journals and publications to product management for development.

• Execute programs following annual business plan to develop business and achieve the target sales number within the territory in the specified target market and application segments.

• Cross-sell all AutoChem products aligned with the Strategic Value Selling Stories.

• Act as a steward for the combined AutoChem technologies (hardware and software) and demonstrate integrated workstation strategy.

• Follow SAP best practice including timely entry of visits, opportunities, notes, 100% lead follow up.

What You Need to Succeed

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline and 3 years of Chemical, Bio-Chemical or Pharmaceutical industry experience, or a Master's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline and 1 year of Chemical, Bio-Chemical or Pharmaceutical industry experience. Required experience must include three years (or 1 with a Master's degree) in the following areas:

• Presenting scientific content to scientific audience;

• Assisting customers in the Chemical, Bio-Chemical or Pharmaceutical Industry by recommending appropriate product selection for process applications and customer requirements;

• Working closely with Market and Product Development teams to translate conceptual ideas and customer inputs into potential new opportunities;

• Developing market forecasts, strategic and operating plans and driving marketing initiatives in line with market opportunities and competitor analysis with sales and marketing teams; and

• Creating technical marketing content and conducting product training for customers to present engineering applications and specifications.
