Performs tests and analyses according to established procedures in designated technical department.
Will float the following locations - Chicago, Joliet, Niles, Itasca
Basic Function:
The Testing Personnel provide specimen processing, test performance and results reporting that are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the incumbents education, training or experience and technical capabilities.

Scope of Supervision - given and/or received: (quantifiable dimensions of position):
Reports to the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director.
Performs high complexity testing only under the onsite direct supervision of a General Supervisor.

Principal functional responsibilities:
1.Follows the laboratorys procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
2.Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
3.Adheres to the laboratorys quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
4.Follows the laboratorys established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratorys established acceptable levels of performance.
5.Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director.
6.Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications.
7.Performs those duties as outlined in the incumbents LabCorp title job description.

Qualifications/requirements: (education, experience, training required to perform position)
This position meets all necessary requirements for Testing Personnel as outlined in CLIA regulations
Skill Requirements
Administrative: Answer telephones, maintain logs/records, organizational skills, proficiency with numbers, research information, time management, train employees, use computerized databases, written and verbal communications.
Machine: Personal computer.
Physical Demands: Speech clarity, utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on ones feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping. Moderate physical effort (up to 30 pounds); must comply with applicable safety procedures.
Additional job duty (as assigned): (Hazardous Chemical Waste Management) Proper identification of known hazardous material in the work place. The knowledge of personal protection measures. The avoidance of accidents.
The knowledge of hazardous waste characteristics, hazardous waste volume generation limits, accumulation limits, spill control measures, record keeping, proper handling and container management, labeling, container and storage inspection.
Working Conditions: Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases; must comply with applicable safety procedures.
Vision Requirements: Far acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more; near acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less; depth perception-ability to judge distance and space relationships; color vision-ability to distinguish and identify different colors.
License/Certification/Education: Must have a BA/BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or other related science and all required city/state/licenses or permits to qualify as a Technologist plus 1 year of clinical lab experience.

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Site Physician(s) and Practice Manager, serves as a primary assistant to physicians and nurses. May also be directed by employees in a charge or lead role. Practices high quality medical care in performing a variety of patient care activities such as preparation for appointments, minor exams and procedures, laboratory and maintenance controls, patient documentation, and various office duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Depending on Practice Site Requirements, an incumbent in this position may not perform all the key responsibilities listed below. However, it is expected that at least 80% of the responsibilities are performed for this job. Travel to other sites may be required. Patient and Appointment Preparation: Prepares examination rooms for patient visits, including cleaning, sterilizing, stocking supplies. Escorts patients to exam rooms and assists in obtaining pertinent information, which may include obtaining vital signs, weight, height, health history, chief complaint and symptoms. Maintains optimum patient flow by keeping exam rooms occupied with patients for office visits. Performs Exams/Procedures: Upon request, assists the Provider (Physician, PA, NP) with examinations and minor office surgeries. May assist with instrument handling and exam/procedure preparation. May collect lab specimens (blood draws, urine, and saliva) and perform on-site lab testing including collecting samples for slides centrifuge and/or cultures. Performs various tests: EKG; blood glucose testing; hemocults; urine pregnancy tests; pulmonary function testing; spirometry; and vision testing. Changes dressings, applies bandages, casts, and performs other first aid procedures. Carries out CPR in patient emergent situations. Additional Responsibility for CMAs: Practicing within the scope of certification, training, and experience, performs intramuscular, subcutaneous and nebulizer medications as ordered by a physician. Quality Control Procedures: Conducts appropriate laboratory and sterilization controls and maintains appropriate documentation. Performs autoclaving duties upon completion of sterilization certification education. Disposes of biohazardous wastes according to OSHA standards. Cleans, disinfects and/or sterilizes instruments and equipment following safety and OSHA standards. Performs routine maintenance on medical equipment. Maintains departmental logs assuring adherence to DMG Safety/OSHA and blood borne pathogen policies and procedures. Patient Documentation: Utilizes appropriate Hyperspace computer functions and interaction with clinic staff and physicians to facilitate patient flow. Documents patient information into their chart, including current medications, reasons for the visit, and patient vitals. Assures that lab, x-ray, and other test results are placed correctly in the patient chart. Prepares charts as per department guidelines. Completes all necessary ancillary service requisition slips. Familiarizes self with necessary department paperwork and is able to identify and complete it. Based on need and direction, provides patients with written department visit policies, HIPAA Rights, medical literature, etc Assists in Coverage: While performing patient care duties, the CMA will not exercise independent medical decision making or perform evaluation/assessment activities. Assists nurse with pharmacy callbacks after demonstrating an understanding of medications. Performs patient callbacks as explicitly instructed by Provider or Nurse. Returns pharmacy faxes to pharmacies after physician approves refills. Provides office coverage during vacations, absences, and/or breaks and lunches. Office Duties: Calls for hazardous waste pick-ups as necessary. Answers telephones and takes appropriate messages. Orders supplies to replenish materials used by staff. Other Duties as Assigned: (Depending on Office Specific Requirements) Receptionist: Front desk reception. May perform patient registration and scheduling. Confirm appointments and insurance coverage. Processes mail. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Must be experienced in PC/keyboard skills and Microsoft office applications. * Must possess excellent communication and writing skills. * Must have the ability to plan, organize, and work independently; exhibits problem-solving skills. * Able to develop professional rapport with employees at all levels of the company. * Must be able to perform CPR when necessary. * Practices OSHA safety standards and complies with HIPAA at all times. * Must complete skills verification testing for tasks required for this position. * Ability to pass CMA competency training during a 90-day new hire orientation period and on an annual basis. EDUCATION and / or CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: * High School diploma or GED and a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant or Paramedic program required. * Active Medical Assistant certification through one of the following OR Paramedic License required: * American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) * American Medical Technologists (AMT) * American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) * National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) * National Healthcareer Association (NHA) * CPR certification required.
