Performs tests and analyses according to established procedures in designated technical department.
Will float the following locations - Chicago, Joliet, Niles, Itasca
The Testing Personnel provide specimen processing, test performance and results reporting that are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the incumbents education, training or experience and technical capabilities.
Scope of Supervision - given and/or received: (quantifiable dimensions of position):
Reports to the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director.
Performs high complexity testing only under the onsite direct supervision of a General Supervisor.
Principal functional responsibilities:
1.Follows the laboratorys procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
2.Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
3.Adheres to the laboratorys quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
4.Follows the laboratorys established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratorys established acceptable levels of performance.
5.Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director.
6.Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratorys established performance specifications.
7.Performs those duties as outlined in the incumbents LabCorp title job description.
Qualifications/requirements: (education, experience, training required to perform position)
This position meets all necessary requirements for Testing Personnel as outlined in CLIA regulations
Administrative: Answer telephones, maintain logs/records, organizational skills, proficiency with numbers, research information, time management, train employees, use computerized databases, written and verbal communications.
Machine: Personal computer.
Physical Demands: Speech clarity, utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on ones feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping. Moderate physical effort (up to 30 pounds); must comply with applicable safety procedures.
Additional job duty (as assigned): (Hazardous Chemical Waste Management) Proper identification of known hazardous material in the work place. The knowledge of personal protection measures. The avoidance of accidents.
The knowledge of hazardous waste characteristics, hazardous waste volume generation limits, accumulation limits, spill control measures, record keeping, proper handling and container management, labeling, container and storage inspection.
Working Conditions: Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases; must comply with applicable safety procedures.
Vision Requirements: Far acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more; near acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less; depth perception-ability to judge distance and space relationships; color vision-ability to distinguish and identify different colors.
License/Certification/Education: Must have a BA/BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or other related science and all required city/state/licenses or permits to qualify as a Technologist plus 1 year of clinical lab experience.
