POSITION SUMMARY
Desert Radiology in Las Vegas, Nevada is seeking Tech Aide that will Aide function in an ancillary capacity to enhance technical staff efficiency and the patient experience. The aide provides clerical and limited clinical support related to imaging procedures as appropriate.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Escorts patient to and from the dressing room or exam room and ensures that they are properly dressed and prepped for the exam to be performed. Ensures safety procedures and universal precautions are used at all times.
Conducts clinical history interviews with the patient and screens for any contraindications for the exam to be performed and/or any allergies to contrast agents or medications to be administered.
Prepares the exam table for the exam to be performed (including coil selection); ensures the appropriate exam supplies are available (e.g., contrast agents, medications, etc.); assists the technologist with patient positioning.
Obtains the prior reports, film, H & P (History & Physical), prescriptions, labs, and other clinical data, as needed; collates necessary paperwork/film prior to the case being presented for radiologist review.
Works with the file room staff to: 1) Obtain prior studies for comparison, 2) Retrieve archived PACS studies, 3) Print studies for courier delivery, 4) Prepare and file jackets, 5) Print reports and duplicate film, 6) Develop film for the technologist.
Communicates with the Patient Care Center to schedule additional images when request by the radiologist.
Collates prior films, reports, and other pertinent clinical data for technologist/radiologist in preparation for invasive procedures (e.g., biopsy).
Under technologist/radiologist supervision, assists with IV placement, administration of contrast agents, and may assist the RN and/or radiologist with the administration of sedation and or other medications as needed.
Assists in monitoring department supply level.
Cleans technical and auxiliary equipment to ensure quality and hygiene for infection control purposes
Performs related technical and/or administrative duties which include, but are not limited to:
Completing necessary paperwork and labeling images.
Reviewing scheduled patient appointments and contacting patient, via telephone, to confirm appointment date, time, and location. Advises the patient of any preparations required for the procedure.
Coordinating the exam with other modalities.
Performing all necessary functions relating to the RIS/PACS.
Assisting patient at all times (including to and from a vehicle, if necessary). Assisting the front office staff with technical questions.
DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
This position calls for a highly organized individual as their role will require self-direction, flexibility, and a capacity to give and receive feedback graciously. The Tech Aide should possess the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards.
Knowledge of and experience in using office equipment including telephone, fax, computer and photocopier
Knowledge of and experience in using radiology-related computer systems (RIS/PACS)
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to effectively interact with physicians, other facility staff, patients and families when providing instructions or responding to questions or exchanging patient-related information
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing tasks
Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds when assisting and positioning body parts or handling and transporting supplies
Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques.
Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the telephone.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient record information
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum one year medical office experience in a healthcare environment
Knowledge of medical terminology and strong customer service skills
Current BLS certification (or will be required to obtain within 90 days)
PHYSICIAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Position requires varied physical activities including sitting, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and stooping; requires eye-hand coordination, finger dexterity, and occasional lifting and/or carrying items; requires ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds when assisting and positioning body parts or handling and transporting supplies. Position may be stressful at times.
The hourly range for this position is $16.00 - $19.00.
