Who We Are: Southwest Research Institute is a Texas-based non-profit focused on providing unrivaled organic chemistry expertise that spans pharmaceutical development, chemical methodology, fine chemical manufacturing technologies and AI/ML in silico modeling.
Objectives of this Role: Participate as part of a team whose function is to develop synthetic routes to drug candidates, synthesize new analogues and scale them up to manufacture active pharmaceutical ingredients. Assist in the development of new chemical methodologies.
Assist in scale-up efforts in pilot plant for cGMP and non-cGMP small molecule synthesis. Assist with maintaining lab/pilot plant equipment. Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Execute chemical reactions and isolate and characterize the products. Be willing to learn new analytical and chemical techniques and apply them in the laboratory independently or as part of a team. Follow precise instructions on experiments and consult supervisor as needed.
Maintain a clean workspace and glassware, maintain/exercise safe practices, always use appropriate personal protective equipment. Support department staff in maintaining lab reagents and supplies. Maintain laboratory supplies, order as needed.
Assist with keeping solvents and reagents in stock and lab ready. Assist with waste removal. Maintain lab 5S ready (organized for efficiency and effectiveness). Document all experimental procedures in a controlled logbook.
Ensure logbooks are peer-reviewed within 30 days. Requirements: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. 2 years: Experience working in an organic chemistry laboratory and be familiar using chemical glassware. 2 years:
Familiarity with one or more of the following analytical techniques: NMR, TLC, HPLC, IR, LC/MS. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
