Overview

Under the direction of the department manager, performs interpretive, patient care, and technical functions to insure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients. Radiology technicians must be able to closely follow physician instructions, prepare radiograph equipment, position patients, correctly and accurately capture the requested diagnostic image.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate ability to produce high quality radiographs

  • Consistently produces diagnostic images and keeps repeats to a minimum.

Follow all radiation protection guidelines, as listed in Title 17, California Radiation Control Regulations

  • Comply with film badge policy 100% of the time.

  • Shield patients per protocols 100% of the time.

  • Record female patient's LMP on requisition 100% of the time.

  • Follow proper storage and up keep of lead aprons and gloves 95% of the time.

  • Follow appropriate protection protocols for other employees and/or family members Radiology area.

Room set-up and assist Radiologist

  • Maintain supplies stocked and room cleaned and organized.

  • Follow proper technique if procedure is sterile procedure or fluoroscopy, etc.

  • Assist Radiologist when indicated.

Monitor all Equipment use and function

  • Troubleshoots equipment before calling service engineer.

  • Takes good care of all equipment and provides regular surface cleaning sessions for all x-ray units.

Complete all patient paperwork

  • Within 10 minutes of exam, check to be sure that the patient information is legible and correct on all paperwork.

  • Be sure jacket has appropriate insert.

  • Compare jackets as needed.

  • Report all problems with paperwork to appropriate person.

Supply Control

  • Utilizes resources conscientiously. Minimizes waste of resources and continuously seeks ways to save on supplies. Manages inventory well.

Participates in education programs

  • Attends in-service workshops as requested by supervisor.

  • Attends outside education seminars to remain current in field.

Demonstrate flexibility in job duties

  • Assist in other areas of the department as needed.

  • Become knowledgeable of functioning of all areas of department.

  • Suggest areas that need attention and offer assistance.

  • Actively participates in Performance Improvement Activities.

Professional Conduct

  • Employee has the willingness and ability to perform additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on an as-needed basis or as determined by management.

  • Follows established hospital and department policies.

  • No more than 2 written substantiated complaints representing a breach of policy, procedure or professional behavior since last evaluation.

  • Demonstrates the philosophy of team concept.

  • Participates in group projects and staff meetings with suggestions that enhance the work environment and increase productivity.

  • Communicates well with supervisor reporting problems with equipment, supplies, or procedures. Requests assistance as appropriate.

  • Maintains confidentiality as related to job responsibilities.

  • Exhibits willingness to resolve problems as they arise.

  • Consistently projects positive professional image through appearance and behavior.

  • Attends 75% of staff meetings or reads and initials minutes.

  • Completes assigned work within shift.

Guest/Interdepartmental Relations

  • As observed by representatives of management, all interactions are conducted in a professional manner.

  • Verbal and written feedback from patients, family members. significant others, medical staff, visitors and coworkers indicates behavior conducive to positive guest relations.

  • Consistently exhibits appropriate phone protocol (e.g., answers phones promptly, is courteous and helpful).

  • Consistently contributes to the team effort (e.g., assists co-workers when need is observed or upon request, offers constructive suggestions rather than complaints).

  • Consistently displays cheerful and positive attitude.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Completes annual safety updates within established time frames.

  • Completes general and departmental orientation within established time frames.

  • Attends 80% of in-services programs.

  • Maintains licensure/certification as appropriate.

Performance Improvement

  • Consistently strives to understand, anticipate and meet the needs, expectations and satisfaction levels of patients and other "customer"s. Errors, inefficiencies and inaccuracies are brought to management's attention with suggestions for improvement. Develops innovative solutions to departmental problems. Identifies and implements methods of controlling costs or generating revenue while providing maximum value to both the patient/customer and the hospital. Maximizes efficiency in all departmental operations. Measures progress against quality goals.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Completion of an Accredited Two-Year Radiology Technology Program. Minimum Experience

  • No Formal Experience Required; However, One Year Acute-Care Setting Preferred. Required Certification/Registration

  • A.R.R.T required; C.R.T. license required. BLS certification required. Fluoroscopy Permit required within six months from hire date.
