About the Job

Incumbent serves as a member of the Hoosier Helper Incident Response Crew by operating a van or truck to speed the removal of incidents and maintain safe and efficient traffic flow, assist disabled motorists by diagnosing minor mechanical problems; provide gasoline, oil, coolant; change flat tires; and jump start stalled vehicles. Push stalled vehicles to highway shoulder or exit ramp, report and tag abandoned vehicles for tow by the Indiana State Police. Provide fundamental first aid to injured motorists as needed.


  • Patrol for, and respond to, freeway incidents that disrupt the normal flow of traffic, set up traffic control for incidents, detect and verify incidents, and detect and verify traffic problems caused by special events;

  • Serve as a liaison to the Unit Foreman by identifying freeway operational deficiencies and advising of to potential solutions;

  • Observe traffic conditions and report to unit foreman traffic operation problems, deficiencies in work zone traffic control setup by other agencies, unauthorized lane closures or work, and/or unusual traffic delays; Monitor in-vehicle video equipment to locate incidents, and monitor CB radio to gather information about disturbances in traffic flow;

  • Remove debris, control minor spills, and request assistance for complex clean up and report need for specialized equipment, personnel or materials;

  • Perform pre-operation vehicle inspection and inventory checks (fluid levels, tire inflation, wash and wax vehicle, replaces depleted tools or supplies on vehicle);

  • Interacts with maintenance garage personnel for planned and unplanned maintenance of vehicle.

  • Perform general housekeeping duties of Hoosier Helper occupied garage facilities;

  • Perform daily administration tasks such as incident log, motorist service log, and completion of time sheets and daily work reports;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • High school graduate or equivalent;

  • Must possess a valid driver's license;

  • Must have valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or ability to obtain within 90 days;

  • Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment;

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds;

  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time;

  • Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather;

  • Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly;

  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team;

  • Excellent Interpersonal skills;

  • Basic knowledge of automobile mechanical skills;

  • Basic knowledge of first-aid.

About the job: * Immediate response to incidents meeting entry criteria. * Handles basic to complex incidents including Significant Events and Sr. Leadership communications. * Actively engages other IT groups and/or Business partners to drive service restoration as soon as possible, minimize business impact, and meet SLA targets. * Documents incident details per exit criteria to Problem Management. * Communicates incident status via established templates to various levels of the organization. * Identifies opportunities for and leads process improvement initiatives, including the creation and implementation of new processes. * Drives higher level escalations with operational support groups and suppliers * May be aligned to a Market IT organization and act as primary point of contact to: * a. Provide named ownership for the Incident Management relationship (build a strong partnership with their assigned Market(s); know the Market and know the applications). * Facilitate formal Service Improvement Programs, process training, review, improvements and issue resolution with assigned Market(s) (best practices; what's working or not working; breakdown in process internally/externally is identified; what one market wants vs. the others; socializing improvements across Markets and facilitate the end-to-end ultimate resolution; resource engagement). * Consult with assigned Market(s) ensuring incident documentation (run books: usability, triage, technology SME's required for restoration and other related content, on-call lists, etc.; acts as a production support stage gate) quality and timely updates based on post incident review. Desired Skills: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related in technical discipline or equivalent experience - minimum of 5 years of related experience. * Extensive working knowledge of Liberty Mutual infrastructure and application architecture. * Related technical certifications in data networking, mid-range and mainframe OS and hardware architecture, storage systems, database, or software design a plus. * Thorough knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies. * Thorough knowledge of business functions and extensive understanding of business operations, strategies and objectives. * Extensive knowledge of Process and IT service management concepts. ITIL Incident Control training preferred. * Experience in technical problem solving and crisis management concepts. * Ability to promote a team environment.
