POSITION: Technician II

Opportunity Snapshot

The Remote Hands Technician II will assist all Digital Realty customers by providing "best in class" technical support. The Remote Hands Technician II will work with and support all customer demands including remote hands support, racking and stacking of network devices, cabling, cross connects, and power.

Internally, the Remote Hands Technician II will work with the Deployment and Implementation team, the Command Center, Provisioning and Project Management to ensure all installations meet delivery dates and create a positive customer experience. The Remote Hands Technician II will be primarily responsible for racking and stacking network devices, cabling, terminating, testing, labeling and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic homeruns and cross-connects while responding to Technical Support Requests within the agreed Service Level Agreement time frame. The Remote Hands Technician II will also assist other members of the Operations Team ensuring 100% uptime to all customers.

The Requirements
3+ years of experience in Telecommunications or Data Center related field

Understanding of telecom structured cabling standards

Understanding of network device deployment

Understanding of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) standards and operations

Ability to communicate written and verbally

Work flexible shift schedules

Provide rotational on-call coverage

Use of industry standard test equipment


Desired (but not Required) Job Skills/

Knowledge:

CompTIA A+ / Net + Certification

Knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory

Building Management System and Branch Circuit Monitoring experience

Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills

Professional business communication and interpersonal skills

Effective organizational skills and attention to detail

Leadership and Team experience

Mission Critical Data Center Facility Maintenance

Knowledge of Telcordia installation standards

Strong analytical skills

The Role

Perform Remote Hands services which are tracked through the Digital Realty ticketing system. This includes, but is not limited to the following services:

Equipment Rack and Stack

Cable, terminate, and dress fiber or copper network cabling

Assist customers with the diagnosis of hardware and software issues on their equipment

Power cycling of customer equipment

Perform cabinet/cage audits

Blade/Card, Memory, Hard Drive, and Transceiver installations or removal

Testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic circuits

Perform migrations of equipment, power, or networking devices

Shipping and Receiving of packages

Assist with security related items (e.g. Access Control System, DVR and CCTV systems)

Help Security administer badges for internal and external customers

Receive, install, and test customer and internal cross connects of copper and fiber optic interconnections

Provide timely customer and internal updates using a computer based ticketing system

Receive, log, and store internal packages

Perform and document inventory verification/counts.

Perform infrastructure builds including:

Cages

Cabinets

Relay Racks

Ladder Racking and Basket Tray

Fiber Trough

Perform DC power installations per Facility Engineering design specifications

Monitor and report on Mechanical HVAC systems

Monitor and report on Critical Power Systems

Maintain overall Data Center cleanliness and appearance

Work flexible shift schedules

Provide rotational on-call coverage

Report to the facility within a 1 hour average for emergency outage assistance

EXAM NUMBER: Y4955F OPEN COMPETITIVE JOB OPPORTUNITY DEFINITION: Functions as a lead person providing technical direction to less experienced tissue technicians and performing the more complex or specialized tissue analysis procedures. Essential Job Functions * Investigates, identifies and resolves problems with equipment malfunctions, difficulties with improperly fixed tissue, cut resistant tissue embedded in paraffin or plastic and irregularly staining tissue. * Recognizes and resolves problems which may occur with stains, reagents and other solutions that do not produce expected results. * Assists in training and orienting new technicians to the laboratory and to the specific procedures established for the preparation of processing of specimens for light and electron microscopic evaluation. * Performs standardized laboratory procedures such as cutting 1-3 micron thick paraffin sections and 1 micron thick plastic sections for study and viewing by a pathologist using a light or electron microscope. * Stains slides with 2-7 micron thick paraffin sections and 1 micron thick plastic sections using routine, special or histochemical stains to demonstrate pathological features of tissue by use of the light microscope by a pathologist. * Establishes priorities for the workflow of the Tissue Analysis Laboratory; i.e., RUSHES for early morning diagnosis, FROZEN's for immediate diagnosis. * Acts as supervisor in the absence of the Tissue Analysis Technician Supervisor. * Assists the laboratory supervisor in the identification of new equipment, materials or other items of supply that warrant investigative testing. * Participates in experiments to evaluate the feasibility or adaptability of products or procedures in regular laboratory operations, and in the set-up and standardization of new equipment. * Oversees loading of tissue processor with properly prepared cassettes with specimens for processing. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years' experience in the preparation of tissue specimens for morphological analysis under a light and electron microscope in an approved laboratory*. The experience must have included sectioning and staining from paraffin or plastic blocks for routine techniques, special histochemical techniques, and electron microscopic techniques. PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved. Special Requirement Information: * An approved laboratory is defined as a clinical laboratory that has a federal issued Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment Laboratory Certificate of Accreditation that authorizes the laboratory to accept human specimens for the purpose of performing laboratory examinations, and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) or Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Additional Information Examination Content: This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience based upon application information weighted at 100%.
