What we want
The Technician I - Research assists in research planning, conducts protocol development, conducts experiments, assists in mouse colony management and in laboratory maintenance, and publication preparation.
What you need to know
Schedule: This is a part-time 19.5 hours per week position.
Physical Requirements: Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to reach as low as 6" off the ground or as high as 7' and safely/securely maneuver lightweight objects (necessary to remove and replace mouse cages in the vivarium mouse colony racks)
Required Education and Experience:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment
Ensure attention to detail
Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with writing for scientific publications
Experience with working with rodents (mice) in a research setting
Experience with using the Visualsonic Vevo 3100 imaging system and VevoLab analysis software
Actionable knowledge with collecting echocardiography images on rodents
Experience with analyze echocardiography data
Experience with PCR and quantitative PCR
Experience with protein chemistry
Responsibilities:
Research
Conducts experiments and technical procedures.
Drive long-term experimental endeavors to its successful completion
Researches literature relating to possible procedures and experiments.
Modifies procedures to suit the particular research need
Assists with planning and supervising technical operations
Assists personnel involved in a series of controlled environment or analysis experiments
Makes complex chemical and physical analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and tests, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation
Uses computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data.
Makes and records observations and measurements
Animal Colony Maintenance
Assists mouse colony manager with maintaining colony inventory records.
Conducts animal husbandry procedures.
Communicates with CMP and the mouse colony manager.
Writing
Writes and/or edits for publication scientific materials requiring academic knowledge.
Researches and catalogs reference materials requiring understanding of subject matter theory.
Performs other duties as assigned.
