Purpose of the Technician I, Core Network Position: Responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of switching, data communications, and peripheral equipment associated with the company's Wireless and Wireline Core networks. Compile and maintain accurate data for traffic reporting and provide technical support. To include; coordinating installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities associated upgrading and administering multiple vendor systems; maintaining system applications; ensuring quality customer service; and providing support to the company's internal business groups.
Essential Duties of the Position:
Provide support for wireless and wireline platforms and associated network elements to meet established Service Level Agreement (SLA) commitments and escalate to next level support.
Troubleshoots and repairs all Wireless and Wireline Core Network equipment, including replacement of electronics parts, to minimize Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
Provides technical assistance and training to internal and external groups to resolve problems affecting customers.
Perform daily operational checks and preventative maintenance on all Wireless and Wireline Core Network and associated equipment to maximize network availability.
Maintains and/or repairs all switch support equipment, including generators, HVAC units, power systems, batteries, and fire suppression systems. Understands and applies all safety practices in the workplace.
Communicates information effectively regarding system status and attends to all required reporting in a timely manner.
Administer and support multiple vendor systems and maintains system applications, to include opening and managing vendor trouble and support tickets.
Performs system software and hardware upgrades collaboratively with Engineering and other groups.
Coordinates installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities and updates daily logs with site-specific information and maintains system documentation.
Tracks repair parts and materials according to established procedures.
Additional Job Requirements:
This is an entry-level technician position within the wireless and wireline core network field. Perform routine assignments as directed under close supervision. Must have a basic understanding of telecommunications, installation, modifications, and test procedures. Ability to execute basic equipment installation, test and turn up working under close supervision and support senior technicians.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Broad based knowledge of and ability to maintain equipment typically found in a Wireless and Wireline Core network.
Familiar with all test equipment common to a core switching center.
Ability to work in a team environment and with minimal supervision.
Basic knowledge of switch technology, associated protocols and signaling.
Ability to communicate effectively, including oral reporting, working with other technicians and engineers, documenting problems and filing reports.
Ability to work in stressful situations and maintain focus on proper troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.
Procedurally oriented with excellent customer service.
Excellent computer skills and ability to use common office applications, and technical applications common in a telecommunications environment.
Dedicated to continually improving personal skills, and the group's ability to serve the customer.
Documented experience with all test equipment common to a core switching center.
Ability to follow the company's Basic Principles and Code of Business Conduct and Ethics guidelines.
Experience required for the Technician I, Core Network position:
Minimum of one-year experience in telecommunications, with wireless or wireline core experience preferred.
Relevant experience includes installation, operation, and maintenance of telecommunication switching systems.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Associates Degree in electronics, telecommunications trade school, vocational/military training in relevant field required.
OR, in addition to minimum experience required, degree may be substituted with a combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties on a year for year basis.
Industry specific certifications highly valued and may contribute toward education requirement.
Technical Position: Ability to lift and carry up to (50) lbs. and work in cramped spaces and at heights. Hearing, vision, depth perception, and hand-to-eye coordination sufficient to perform job duties. Visual and auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment and identify color-coding. Ability to tolerate temperature and weather extremes (fumes and odors, dust, low light conditions.) Strength, dexterity, and coordination sufficient to perform job duties.
Working Conditions: Overtime, shift work, and on call required. Some driving may be necessary. The environment is a telecommunications switch center. Standing, bending, standing on ladder, and talking on phone for long hours sometimes required.
Employee is subject to alcohol and drug testing requirements as defined by DOT and/or non-DOT contract or proposed contract with a business partner or client specifications, including but not limited to: pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return to duty, and follow-up testing.

Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record. Positions who drive company fleet vehicles: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, proof of insurance, and a current DOT health card. Employee will be required to use a company fleet vehicle and must satisfactorily complete all elements and requirements of the company's fleet risk management processes.
