Job Description:

General Responsibilities:

As a Construction Services Technician with Terracon you will work under close supervision of higher level technicians or staff professionals, perform routine field and/or laboratory work, transport samples or documents, and perform non-technical functions and office tasks. Provide inspection and materials testing services on roadway and bridge projects throughout North Carolina. Prepare inspection reports and other documentation, make field measurements and properly document quantities for pay purposed in accordance with NCDOT procedures and policies. Read plans and contract documents to determine contractor compliance with contract specifications.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  • Performs Inspection and Materials sampling and/or testing as directed.

  • Provides assistance to other field personnel.

  • Ability to learn iPad/Computer equipment and software programs necessary for documentation of field activities

  • Maintains equipment, vehicles and work areas.

  • Assists other technicians or professional staff on routine tasks.

  • Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments. Ability to learn how to read and interpret roadway and structure plans, contract specifications, apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles.

  • Preform required field measurements, maintain detailed records and reports, and communicate effectively with NCDOT, contractor personnel, and the general public.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma Required, AAS Civil Engineering Technology Preferred.

  • 0-2 years of combined construction related experience and/or education

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited university may be substituted for experience.

  • Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Current or previously held NCDOT certifications in concrete or asphalt a plus. Must have ability to get required certifications within first 12 months of start date.

VIEW JOBS 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-09T00:00 Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking Maintenance Management Engineering Technicians I, II III and IV with highway maintenance and/or asset management experience to assist NCDOT and Municipalities with Highway maintenance projects located in the Raleigh area. Responsibilities include: * Perform field investigations for maintenance needs related to mowing and selective vegetation removal, shoulder and ditching operations, pipe replacements, and resurfacing quantities * Plan, develop, schedule, track and complete projects independently or with limited supervision * Experience in customer service related to resolving problems that involves explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups * Driveway, Encroachment and subdivision permit review * Drive or place survey stakes * Materials testing for applicable projects * Snow and Ice clearing operations Qualifications: * Basic computer skills including, using an iPad, Microsoft Windows, email and Internet * Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry, trigonometry and the ability to apply formulas * Good written and verbal communication skills * Level II and III Technicians must be able to perform duties without constant supervision and should be able to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements * Level IV technicians may serve as a lead project inspector performing general project oversite and communication with the general public, contractors and NCDOT * Level IV technicians may be responsible for the supervision of lower level technicians while providing guidance as needed Certifications Preferred: * NCDOT Concrete * NCDOT QMS Roadway * NCDOT Conventional Density * NCDOT ABC Sampling * NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling * NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control Candidates will be subject to outside environmental conditions, including snow and ice, and disasters which may be required to work overtime. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights.
