Electronic Systems (ES), headquartered in Arlington, Texas, is one of four L3 business segments, and provides a broad range of components, products, subsystems, systems and related services for military and commercial customers. We are searching for a Senior Field Service Technician.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: Must successfully complete all pre-employment screenings including credit.

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs field service activities by installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and servicing x-ray and CT based security systems at customer sites.

Typically handles routine products and/or problems able to perform these tasks without supervision, getting direction from higher-level technicians on more complex problems. Must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation. The duties and responsibilities may change from time to time without notice and include but are not limited to the duties described below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides support to regional customers by installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining x-ray and CT based security systems using built-in diagnostics and external test equipment. May work with customer via phone to identify operations/technical problems.

Responds to customer complaints and questions. Sets up and utilizes specialized test and diagnostic equipment to isolate malfunctions. Installs, repairs, and documents maintenance of equipment and other products.

Replaces defective units/components as appropriate. Performs site acceptance tests and equipment/system acceptance. Assists with performing systems demonstrations and assists at regional trade shows.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of technical school / or military training in electronics engineering technology.

Two (2) to four (4) years experience in field service environment with working knowledge of x-ray and/or CT technologies is required. Must have strong knowledge of electronic and mechanical assemblies as well as wiring diagrams and schematics.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Excellent customer interface and communication skills, both verbal and written are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Applications:

MS-DOS, Win 95, Win NT and MS Office. Willingness to work non-standard hours including weekends and holidays. Must be team player with ability to prioritize and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Must be available to travel on short notice, non-standard hours, travel on weekends, and assist other field sites as required. Must be capable of lifting 75 pounds.

VIEW JOBS 11/16/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-14T00:00 Job Title: Field Service Technician, Sacramento California Reports to: Field Service/Aftermarket Project Manager SUMMARY The Field Service Technician position is responsible for Sales & Aftermarket customer support to achieve and maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction. Field Service Technicians (FST’s) must have strong technical/commercial skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to achieve the customer satisfaction mission by completing tasks such as – equipment startup, repairs, audits, courtesy visits, customer demonstrations, and training on Key Technology products. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -- PROJECT & EQUIPMENT STARTUP: * Communicate with the customer prior to startup to ensure all equipment is in place, utilities are connected, access will be guaranteed, and customer personnel will be available for training. * Consults with customer or supervisor to understand planned layout of equipment and other customer expectations * Assist in the performance of all necessary functions to start up the system. * Operates system to demonstrate equipment and determine start up performance is meeting or exceeding customer expectations * Complete all functions not completed by the customer even though those functions are described as the customer's responsibilities. * Connect, position, align and adjust all components required to make the system function as designed. * Train customer equipment operators in testing application, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance. * Train customer personnel on system operation and maintenance * Communicate the status of the preceding functions on a daily basis to the Key Technology customer service coordinator and customer’s project assignee. * Advise Key management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements. * Write reports documenting the startup work and distribute to appropriate Service & Sales personnel EMERGENCY SERVICE: * Review the customer file prior to departure for service call. * Participate in conversation with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment before breakdown and to assist in determining if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems. * Test faulty equipment and apply knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction. * Test electronic components and circuits to locate defects. * Replace defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts. * Align, adjust and calibrate equipment according to specifications. * Maintain records of repairs, calibrations and tests on the service order report and reviews those items with the customer's assignee for their signature prior to departing the customer's site. * Complete trip report for distribution upon completion of service call. * Complete expense report upon completion of service call. * Make safety a top priority while performing any part of your job. * Must be able to get along well with others. * Must be able to professionally communicate with the customer to where the customer's expectations of professional conduct have been met. PROliance SUPPORT CONTRACTS & AUDITS: Working directly with the customer the FST will: * Schedule support contract activities such as plant visits and training * Conduct support contract activities * Log and document all support contract activities as required by Key’s AfterMarket procedures. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES consist of, but are not limited to: * Reporting all technical activities performed at customer’s site by accurately filling-in the service order report including all specific findings such as, but not limited to, customer contacts, faults found, NCR reporting, actions taken, parts exchanged, training given and to whom, as well as processing all expenses made and all hours worked/travelled according to the applicable administration procedures. * For completing service orders the following is stated: All information should be added to the Service Order within 10 calendar days of being at the customer site. Service Order reporting by the FST for a visit is considered complete when the Service Order status changed to finished. TRAVEL The position requires extensive travel (in excess of 50%) during the week and on weekends. The FST must possess a valid passport and be able to work in assigned countries. The primary work location will be at Key Technology customer sites. QUALIFICATIONS This position requires independent work with little supervision. The FST must be able to manage service calls that require more time than anticipated, maintain a professional attitude, and still complete the job to fulfill the customer’s expectation. They must also possess superb customer service skills and an ability to diagnose and solve problems from non-technical descriptions provided by their customers. The ability to complete tasks that require attention to detail is critical to succeed in the Service Technician position. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. REASONING ABILITY The FST must have: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to connect pieces of information together in order to determine what the intended meaning of the information was meant to represent. Ability to understand and recognize what elements you will need in order to determine an accurate conclusion or hypothesis from the information you have at your disposal. Ability to evaluate the credibility of statements or descriptions of a person’s experience, judgment or opinion in order to measure the validity of the information being presented. Ability to not only restate information, but add clarity and perspective to the information, so it can be fully understood by anyone you are sharing it with. Ability in understanding your own critical thinking skills and the methodologies that you are using to find results. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS The position requires: a valid driver license major credit card for travel a valid passport Employee must be able to work in the US and other countries, as assigned. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES FST must possess the skills to operate oscilloscopes, multimeters , power supplies and must be willing to learn the operation of other applicable electronic and mechanical test equipment as is required. FST must be well versed in the use of a personal computer and cell phone. Microsoft Office familiarity is preferred. The Field Service Technician (FST) works closely with other Key Technology departments, such as Applications, Research and Development, and Sustaining Engineering, in cross functional team problem solving -- brainstorming hardware, software, and application solutions. FST must have the aptitude to study and understand blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures. FST may instruct customer equipment operators in electro-mechanical and optical theory. FST may be involved in coordinating activities with subcontractors hired by Key Technology to complete work at customer site. * Installs or oversees installation of Key Technology and other integrated equipment according to manufacturer's specifications. * Other duties may be assigned.
