Every C Spire team member is charged with living the brand. The primary responsibility of Fiber Design Technician is to provide fiber plant planning and design, fiber splice design and record keeping in various platforms

NOTE: This position may be filled as a Level I, II or III depending on experience.

Responsibilities

Level I

Must be able to show comptence in Micorsoft Excel, Outlook and Word. Must understand the fiber plant's records and how they relate to following fiber from A location to Z location, pull those records and design a splicing solution from them based on Engineering's Fiber Requirements.

Must be able to identify discrepancies in the fiber plant either during design or during splicing event requirements. Must be able to schedule work and complete tasks in a timely manner. Other tasks as assigned by management.

Level II

Have a proven ability to interact cooperatively in a team environment, occasionally taking a leadership role when needed. Assists in training new hires in all functions of the required job responsibilities.

Must be able to demonstrate a competence in using Microsoft Outlook, Excel,and Word. Must be creating & sharing Google kmz's as well as editing in ArcGIS tools. Must be able to print and deliver large files to and from outside sources for construction.

Must assist in creating PDF drawings kmzs' etc. when instructed. Must be able to login to proprietary systems, update status, advance projects and provide verbal and/or emailed updates. Must understand the fiber plant's records and how they relate to following fiber from A location to Z location, pull those records and design a splicing solution from them based on Engineering's Fiber Requirements.

Must demonstrate an awareness of future fiber plant needs and design them into the current solution to reduce future network stress or vulnerability. Must be able to identify discrepancies in the fiber plant either during design or during splicing event. Must be able to correct problems found, communicate corrections to splicing and document in relevant proprietary systems.

Must demonstrate ability to work independently, being highly productive and efficient when working alone or within a team in a cubical environment.

Must be able to answer questions and assist new hires as they learn.

Must be able to schedule work and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Must assist in coordinating & scheduling day to day activities and priorities of team at a project level. Assist on projects, corresponding with various departments to providing service to our customers occasionally taking a leadership role when needed. Other tasks as assigned.

Level III

The primary responsibility of Fiber Design Technician is to provide fiber plant planning and design, fiber splice design and record keeping in various platforms. Possess and demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate Fiber Design scenarios clearly to other team members or outside parties and trainging others on the team to do the same.

Responsible for training new hires in all functions of the required job responsibilities. Have a proven ability to interact cooperatively, recognizing when to take a leadership role and regularly taking a leadership role in a team environment.

Must be able to display a sense of urgency, professionalism, and have an ownership mentality while putting customers and potential customers first.

Must be able to demonstrate a competence in using Microsoft Outlook, Excel,and Word. Must be creating & sharing Google kmz's as well as editing in ArcGIS tools. Must be able to revise in Adobe PDF format to communicate revisions to the CAD Design team and to communicate solutions with the construction teams.

Must be able to print and deliver large files to and from outside sources for construction.

Must assist in creating PDF drawings kmzs' etc. when instructed. Must be able to securely transfer large files to and from outside sources for CAD drawing, PDF drawings kmzs' etc.

Must be able to login to proprietary systems, update status, advance projects and provide verbal and/or emailed updates. Must be able to troubleshoot, identify problems and roll back projects whenever needed to move projects forward. Must be able to communicate to team members & across teams when projects are held up in order to find solutions and get them moving again.

Must understand the fiber plant's records and how they relate to following fiber from A location to Z location, pull those records and design a splicing solution from them based on Engineering's Fiber Requirements.

Must demonstrate an awareness of future fiber plant needs and design them into the current solution to reduce future network stress or vulnerability. Must work closely with Broadband Engineering group on the front end of the design and Splicing group on the back end of the design.

Must be able to identify discrepancies in the fiber plant either during design or during splicing event.Must be able to correct problems found, communicate corrections to splicing and document in relevant proprietary systems.

Must constantly monitor and alert team to rapidly diminishing fiber capacity issues in fiber plant. Must address the whole team with any changes that need to be implemented for best practices.

Must demonstrate ability to work independently, being highly productive and efficient when working alone or within a team in a cubical environment.

Must ensure that every team member is equipped with the tools and priorities to focus on most urgent projects. Must be able to answer questions and assist new hires and other team members as they learn.

Must coordinate, schedule, and oversee day to day activities and priorities of teams as needed at a project level. Insure projects are completed on time, according to acceptable standards, and in accordance with C Spire practices.

Must be able to coordinate and hold safety meetings Have a proven ability to take a leadership role on projects, corresponding with various departments to providing service to our customers.

Must be able to help with team coordination efforts to create an efficient work environment. Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Level I:

Education/ Requirements:
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have and maintain MS driver's licenses.

Minimum two years' experience in Telecommunications, network design and Planning or Related industry. Equivalent military training and experience may be substituted. Must demonstrate ability to work independently, being highly productive and efficient when working alone or within a team in a cubical environment.

Level II:

Education/Requirements:
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent 2 year associates degree preferred or 3 years equivalent work experience in the Telecommunications industry. Any design related certifications in GIS or ArkGIS is a plus.

Minimum 3-5 years experience in Outside Plant Design and Planning or related industry. Equivalent military training and experience may substitute. Must demonstrate ability to work independently, being highly productive and efficient when working alone or within a team in a cubical environment.

Must be able to demonstrate a competence in using email and some Microsoft Office skills for general job functions. Must be able to demonstrate a competence in using email and some Microsoft Office skills for general job functions.

Level III:

Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent. 2 year associates degree preferred or 4 years equivalent work experience. Any design related certifications in GIS or ArkGIS is a plus.

Minimum 4-6 years experience in Outside Plant Design and Planning or related industry. Equivalent military training & experience may be substituted. Must demonstrate ability to work independently, being highly productive and efficient when working alone or within a team in a cubical environment.

Must be able to demonstrate a competence in using email and some Microsoft Office skills for general job functions.

Physical: Must be able to sit long periods of time behind computer.

VIEW JOBS 5/22/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-08-20T00:00 Posting Job Description JOB SUMMARY Under minimal supervision, repair, maintain, test, proof or adjust as needed all fiber optic cables and related equipment for large residential and enterprise projects in coordination with the Construction Team. Ensure maximum quality and peak performance and reliability of all fiber optic equipment. Respond to fiber damage events, perform splicing repairs of fiber optic cables and report all information concerning damages. Perform fiber splicing on large HFC optical builds for residential locations and large fiber builds for enterprise locations. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience. Perform Commercial fiber customer activations and maintenance, including field and customer premise work up to fiber optic patch panel. Perform large fiber splicing projects, including ribbon fiber burns as required for cell tower and carrier hotel splicing, testing, and activating. Provide onsite repair, installation, and servicing of optic hardware up to fiber optic patch panel with the ability to identify and resolves performance problems onsite. Conduct DWDM/CWDM spectrum analysis and testing. Splice and test connectivity for enterprise customers and optical verification and system data center and interconnects. Perform corrective actions to repair any problems affecting fiber or fiber related equipment from the Headend/Hubs to each node and or fiber customer. Perform and/or coordinate with other functions including Field Operations and Maintenance all testing of fiber network. Maintain and document fiber splicing and splitter configurations. Measure and record performance characteristics of outside plant with electronic equipment, such as OTDR, Fusion Splicers, and related equipment. Build in the appropriate location all mandatory tracking documents for fibers/circuits and activate new nodes as required by new build construction or through segmentation work. Operate highly specialized test and fiber optic splicing equipment. Perform investigation and repair of cut fiber optic cables and fiber related equipment, reporting all information concerning damages to supervisor. Complete and report all splicing and testing documentation to the local design team. Complete certification testing of fiber optic links. Communicate with Project Manager, Construction Coordinator, or designated supervisor regarding concerns about construction progress. Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable. Know, understand and follow company policies. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
