Description of Work

This position will independently perform most areas of maintenance repairs, adjustments and modifications of structural, body and cosmetic repairs on transit buses and automotive equipment for safe operation.

This position is considered safety-sensitive and subject to the provisions of the Substance Abuse Program Policy for Safety Sensitive Positions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Carries out ordinary structural maintenance, repairs and adjustments.
Works from written or verbal instructions, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, vendor manuals and manufacturers specifications to accomplish work.
Masks and sands body panels.
Repairs and replaces all body panels.
Fabricates body panels and other bus parts.
Repairs and replaces minor structural components referring unusual or difficult repairs to higher grade technicians for solution or guidance.
Mig welds.
Uses torch cutting equipment.
Responds to emergency road failure requests.
Fabricates seat cushions, re-upholsters and repairs seats
Replaces windshields and glass.
All Arc and Gas welding and cutting.
Installs and repairs vinyl and contravision.
Completes minor art work and graphics repairs.
Primes and paints using single stage, base coats and clears.
Repairs and replaces floors, interiors and seats.
Cleans and services body shop equipment.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to perform all duties listed in the duties section and job summary.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Ability to bend, stoop, walk, stretch, kneel and lift fifty (50) pounds.
Ability to pass DOT physical and drug screen.
Ability to work in open bays, inside buses and outside in varying weather conditions.
Ability to handle and use commercial cleaners and toxic materials to perform duties.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Ability to possess all tools on tool list.
Ability to possess a current Florida CDL license or permit, Class B with a P Airbrakes endorsement. Must have a clean driving record.
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent; three (3) years experience in transit or heavy vehicle body and structural maintenance; two (2) years technical school; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Hourly Pay Rate: $20.31 per Collective Bargaining Agreement
