In the Department of Facilities at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine there is an immediate need for a Technical Writer.

Job Description Summary

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential function. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Writes, edits, and packages a variety of technical documents, including policies,

procedures, requests for proposals, reports and manuals.

  • Utilizes photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users'

understanding of the technical information.

  • Creates documentation methodology and framework.

  • Creates document flow diagrams.

  • Develops and maintains staff user-training materials for equipment and systems.

  • Develops OSHA safety training material for Facilities staff.

  • Utilizes OEM specifications and technical data to write inspection, testing, and

maintenance procedures.

  • Utilizes Agencies Having Jurisdiction standards to develop policies and procedures.

  • Produces and maintains documentation related to policies and procedures, utility systems

and equipment manuals, user guides, and online documents, and videos.

  • Drafts and organizes the Facilities Compliance Department documentation efforts

including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

  • Meets with staff and vendors to map requirements for policies and procedures.

  • Uses computer applications or other automated systems, such as spreadsheets, word

processing, PowerPoint, and other software in performing work assignments.

  • Revises documents as new standards or issues arise or within the required revision cycle

dateline.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Straight command of spoken and written English.

  • Knowledge of computer systems and ability to use computer software packages (word

processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, PolicyStat, and other software as required).

  • Strong analytical skills, with an ability to map requirements to policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.

  • Ability to perform highly detailed work accurately.

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and adaptability.

  • Must place emphasis on teamwork, cooperation, and customer relations.

  • Must have excellent customer service, communications and interpersonal skills.

personnel.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Associate's degree in relevant field required. Bachelor Degree (BA/BS) in Technical Communications, Journalism, English, or other communications-related field preferred.

Experience:

Minimum5 years of relevant experience with 5 years of experience in writing and/or document controls preferred.
