Job Description:



SAIC is currently looking for a Technical Writer for the S3I MLRS project. The duty location is in Huntsville, Alabama.


As a Technical Writer supporting MLRS, the ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Candidate will be required to manage multiple writing projects, priorities, and technical inputs with moderate supervision.

  • Candidate should be able to track task statuses even if schedule/priorities change quickly.

  • Candidate will edit complex software/hardware/management/process documentation.

  • Candidate will be required to take and publish minutes for technical meetings.

  • Candidate will be required to work successfully with SMEs, assist technical team members with writing tasks, and assist individuals in troubleshooting Microsoft Word issues.

  • Candidate will be expected to follow processes, writing/style conventions, and configuration management established for MLRS documentation.


Required Education:

Bachelors and three (3) years or more experience; Four (4) years of experience accepted in lieu of degree

Required Qualifications:

  • A strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple assignments with moderate supervision.

  • Ability to work successfully with diverse and professional teams from functional/technical areas (programmers, testers, managers, SMEs, engineers, configuration management, etc.).

  • Ability to plan/schedule work activities and accommodate constantly changing priorities in a busy team environment.

  • Ability to learn new software/hardware.

  • Excellent written/verbal communications skills and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrable proficiency using MS Word (emphasis on styles and referencing tools).

  • Demonstrable proficiency in grammar and punctuation.

  • Moderate experience using MS Excel, PowerPoint, and

VIEW JOBS 5/5/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-08-03T00:00 In this role, you have the opportunity to Develop, write, edit, and proofread technical documents including operational, instructional, maintenance documentation and/or test procedures for paper, multimedia, web-based publications and user-sites for Mercury's Edge Processing business unit. Conduct interviews with technical staff and other stakeholders to gather information for documentation. Ensure documents meet editorial and government specifications as well as internal standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style. You are responsible for * Driving the documentation process by proactively seeking out information and technical resources and bringing outstanding issues to closure so that the documentation process can move forward. * Manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively, and efficiently, balancing priorities and allocating time across parallel writing efforts. * Working on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. * Demonstrating the ability to exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. * Building productive internal/external working relationships with Engineering and Product Management stakeholders. * Monitoring progress against risk mitigation and contingency plans. * Building working relationships with key stakeholders and providing insight into improvements and benefits of Mercury's unique value add through documentation. You will be able to contribute to the continued process and documentation improvement within one of the fast-growing segments of our business. To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience * Bachelor's Degree in Communication or English preferred. * Minimum one year of related technical writing experience, co-op or intern experience is preferred * Experience in Technical and Professional writing for technology products or applications. * Programs or Tools required: MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) * Programs or Tools desired: Adobe FrameMaker and Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence) * Ability to communicate effectively and clearly. * Must be self-motivated and a great team worker. * Comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic multi-disciplinary environment Why should you join Mercury Systems?
