Technical Writer (PMW 130) Full Time San Diego, CA Position Description Trabus Technologies (TRABUS) is looking for an experienced Technical Writer with five to eight years of experience developing documentation for the Department of Defense (DoD) and its programs. Demonstrated work history in the Department of the Navy (DON); Naval Information Warfare Systems Commands (NAVWAR), formerly SPAWAR, Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I); or Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) is considered a plus.
As a subcontractor to Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), TRABUS provides technical writing support to Navy Cyber Situational Awareness (NCSA) under the PEO C4I Information Assurance and Cybersecurity Program Office (PMW 130). Using reference material and existing documentation, the technical writer will work closely with system engineers and project team members to collect, develop and maintain product documentation (user manuals, technical manuals, and test reports), project documentation (project standards, status reports, meeting minutes, and action items), test definition and results reports, and organization policy and procedure documentation. Support includes researching, writing, editing, and proofreading deliverable logistical and project support documentation in accordance with customer specifications and Navy standards.
Documentation topics focus primarily on computer networks and infrastructure, network defense, cybersecurity, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), and big data analytics. Command of desktop publishing, and experience using Microsoft Visio and Office 365 (Word, Access, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.) are required. Responsibilities
Capture, collect, track and update relevant procedures, instructions and descriptions used in the development of the aforementioned documentation.
Draft document outlines.
Conduct research and work closely with system engineers and project team members to collect, develop and maintain product documentation.
Incorporate changes, updates and redlines into existing documentation.
Create, update and maintain documentation diagrams, figures and schematics.
Conducts reviews, tech edits and white gloves to ensure documentation quality control.


Qualifications:
-5-8 years experience as a Technical Writer or 5 years experience and a bachelors degree in the arts or social sciences.- Experience with DoD, Navy, and/or NAVWAR clients.- Some program management experience will be considered a plus)
-Self-starter, self-organized and can prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision.- Exceptional presentation skills.- Exceptional communication skills (oral and written). Clearance: A DoD Security clearance is required for this position. Fully adjudicated, active SECRET clearance as a minimum requirement (active TOP SECRET or TOP SECRET (SCI Eligible) considered a plus). Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Create technical documents detailing applications and services, including items like screen designs and data contracts, to facilitate communication between internal and external development teams. * Create technical documents required as part of the Quality process. * Create data flow diagrams, component diagrams, and similar technical illustrations. * Write non-technical overview descriptions of components and services that provide varied audiences with a summary of what the products do, and how to use them. * Ensure content flow, simplicity, and succinctness. Adjust copy as necessary for grammar and spelling. * Meet with development teams to understand their documentation needs, and ensure documentation is of an appropriate level of thoroughness. Required Qualifications: * 5+ years of technical writing/editing experience * Results-oriented, self-disciplined, fast-paced, motivated individual that requires minimal supervision able to interface with multiple development squads at one time. * Demonstrated experience understanding functionality of software. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in documenting software interfaces. * Experience with technical writing in the healthcare or medical device industry * Experience creating and maintaining Microsoft Word templates * Experience with Agile methodology, especially SCRUM Experience and Education Requirements: * Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience.
