Sayres is seeking an Technical Writer, Mid with active Secret security clearance, verifiable in JPAS.

Position is located at the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center in San Diego, CA.

Qualifications & Clearance Requirements

This position includes:

  • Provide updates to include review, update, and, when required, develop Tactical Memorandum (TACMEMO), Tactical Bulletins (TACBUL) and Fleet Advisory Messages (FAMs).

  • Review, update, and, when required, provide input on Joint Publications (JPs), Navy Warfare Publications (NWPs), and Navy Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (NTTP) in accordance with listed references.

  • Research information from ships' battle bills, naval messages, combat system/equipment configuration manuals, validated and approved tactics, as well as data provided by technical specialists and validated fleet review comments and ensure they are compliant with existing directives.

  • Write and/or edit each publication that is presented for review/update for its intended audience, including rewriting text to ensure tactical/technical information is clear, correct, and succinct; and classification markings are in accordance with prescribed guidelines.

Education, Work Experience, Skills, and Clearance Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • At least 3 years of recent experience developing high quality graphics for presentations

  • At least 3 years of recent proficiency with Adobe software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, and Premiere or equivalent computer

  • programs.

  • At least 3 years of recent experience, either teaching or developing ASW and/or SUW related doctrine or tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP).

  • Possess current SECRET Security Clearance.

Functional Description: Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, web-based publications and user sites; may produce content for embedded user assistance technology. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. May document engineering processes and specifications. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Create technical documents detailing applications and services, including items like screen designs and data contracts, to facilitate communication between internal and external development teams. * Create technical documents required as part of the Quality process. * Create data flow diagrams, component diagrams, and similar technical illustrations. * Write non-technical overview descriptions of components and services that provide varied audiences with a summary of what the products do, and how to use them. * Ensure content flow, simplicity, and succinctness. Adjust copy as necessary for grammar and spelling. * Meet with development teams to understand their documentation needs, and ensure documentation is of an appropriate level of thoroughness. Required Qualifications: * 5+ years of technical writing/editing experience * Results-oriented, self-disciplined, fast-paced, motivated individual that requires minimal supervision able to interface with multiple development squads at one time. * Demonstrated experience understanding functionality of software. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in documenting software interfaces. * Experience with technical writing in the healthcare or medical device industry * Experience creating and maintaining Microsoft Word templates * Experience with Agile methodology, especially SCRUM Experience and Education Requirements: * Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience.
