Using principles of communications and adult education and applying expertise in health and science, the contractor shall prepare communication materials to support presentations for the Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) senior leadership (including the Division Director and Deputy Director for Research Translation) and other OSH staff to present at meetings, scientific conferences, webinars, and other events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare communication materials to support presentations for OSH senior leadership (including the Division Director and Deputy Director for Research Translation) and other OSH staff to present at meetings, scientific conferences, webinars, and other events.
Coordinate project activities with staff from across the division working closely with subject matter experts and the OD management team.
Participate in planning calls and/or liaise via email with requesting parties both internal and external to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and with CDC staff.
Perform research using scientific journals, websites and other resources, and liaise with subject matter experts in order to gather up-to-date, correct information.
Demonstrate an understanding of the influence that design has on comprehension and shall be able to design with graphics, tables, charts and images in PowerPoint and Word.
Use the Communication Assistance Tool, which is a SharePoint-based tool, to make requests for stock images from the OSH stock image account.
Provide a system, such as a Word document or Excel spreadsheet for tracking requests for and completion of document development services and shall report on this monthly and at in person meetings.
Follow all guidance provided in section 4-1 Document Development.
Have expertise in section 508 policy and provide 508-compliant files when appropriate, including PDFs of final products.
Provide technical assistance to OSH staff on the development of PowerPoint files/presentations.
Participate in bi-weekly planning meetings with the OSH Speakers Bureau team to discuss the status of requests.
Provide the OSH subject matter expert a written summary of work accomplished, the status of pending assignments, and any barriers faced and to identify potential delays or pitfalls.
Follow all required OSH, CDC and HHS clearance procedures as well as the requirements and guidelines for printing, should printing be requested.
Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience or Masters and 2 years' experience in health communications/marketing, technical writing or related field.
Proficiency/experience in translating scientific (medical and/or epidemiological) information into plain language and ability to use CDC's Clear Communication Index tool.
Experience developing materials for public health and medical audiences.
Content expertise in tobacco prevention and control preferred.
Advanced skill in developing visual presentations using Microsoft Power Point, including the integration of graphs, charts and tables using Excel as well as integration of video and graphics.
Proficiency in Section 508.
Knowledge of photo editing basics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
