The Technical Writer / Document Control Analyst provides support to all areas of the organization by overseeing the development, review, approval, release, and revision of company-wide policies, procedures, and documentation related to operations, personnel, quality systems, occupational health and safety, and environmental management.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist department managers with drafting, implementation, and revision of policies and procedures

  • Administer the document release process including final edits and publication to relevant areas

  • Oversee Boston Whaler's document library and related training records

  • Ensure active procedures are maintained through ongoing coordination with subject matter experts and revisions

  • Integrate existing company policies and procedures into core documentation library

  • Support department leaders in cross-training existing employees or training of new hires

  • Release vessel documentation in accordance with production schedules

  • Manage supplier manuals, literature, and software revisions

  • Maintain monthly metrics and reporting around documentation system performance

  • Participate in and assist continuous improvement events

  • Support other Quality Assurance tasks as needed

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years minimum developing and maintaining process procedures and work instructions required

  • 2 years within a fast-paced manufacturing, maintenance, or distribution environment required

  • 2 years reading engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards required

  • Experience maintaining records using documentation & training specific software

  • Data analysis and reporting skills beneficial

  • Direct or indirect experience within fiberglass or electro-mechanical assembly processes beneficial

EDUCATION

  • Associate's or Technical Degree required

  • Training and / or certification in Lean Six Sigma highly desired, incumbent must be willing to become Green Belt certified

  • Knowledge of National Marine Manufacturing Association and American Boat and Yacht Club standards highly desired

SPECIAL SKILLS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Formal writing coursework, training, or certification required

  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and written / oral communication skills

  • A self-starter and highly productive team player

  • Able to work cross-functionally, with a customer driven focus and sense of urgency

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 2010 or newer, including SharePoint

  • Skilled in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

  • File management in Windows Explorer within a companywide network

  • Knowledge of Java and Visual Basic highly desired

Basic Accountability Statement: Responsible for the development and maintenance of Owner's manuals and new and existing models in addition to generating technical documents to communicate specific engineering specifications around the manufacturing of product in development or in production. Duties and Responsibilities: * Developing and maintaining owner's manuals for new and existing models. * Updating existing owner's manuals for model year or engineering changes. * Must be able to distill complex information into clear, concise text, appropriate for the target audience. * Developing and maintaining work instructions for engineering, production and customer service. * Liaison with printing companies. * Videotape and photograph boat assembly/testing as needed. * Create line drawings for owner's manuals and related publications. * Ensure interdepartmental communication. * Ensure the work area is clean, orderly and safe. * Know and enforce company policies and procedures. * Ensure timely and adequate completion of all applicable phases of project. * Other duties as required. * Must be willing to travel (minimum 10%). Knowledge/Education * Associates Degree in CAD Drafting, Engineering, or equivalent field preferred Skills/Experience * Minimum 3 to 4 years technical writing experience is required. * Knowledge of manufacturing/production processes in the marine industry is preferred. * Must be highly skilled in Standard Operating Procedure development, strong verbal and writing skills. * Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures. * Experience with AutoCAD or Unigraphics software helpful preferred. * Experience with desktop publishing software, preferably Adobe Indesign and Pagemaker. * Experience with graphic software, preferably Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. * Proficiency in all Microsoft office applications. * Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees throughout the entire Brunswick organization, outside vendors, dealers, and retail customers. * Must be able to work necessary extra hours as required to ensure timely completion of critical project components. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals.
