The selected individual for this Contract Technical Writer role will support our client on a 6 to 8 month contract (with possibility of extension) and will be responsible for creating high-quality internal technical documentation in support of the business unit within the client organization. The successful contractor will be expected to work closely with the SMEs, Process Owners, Business Analysts, Innovation team members and other internal client teams with designing, developing and/or editing deliverables, with a primary focus on process and procedures, standard operating procedures, and work instructions. The role will also track and manage project deliverables, creating a timeline that allows for input from and review by various team members prior to submission. Documents may be produced in multiple formats to include at a minimum Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and online and will often include incorporation of screen captures. This role requires a technical aptitude, and solid soft skills. Key to the role will be gaining a working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and the internal project management application. Technical training will be provided.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Design and write complex technical and/or non-technical process/procedure, instructional, system operation and user documentation
• Create document flow diagrams using Microsoft Visio
• Revise or develop standardized formats and templates that meet documentation requirements and organizational needs
• Develop a standardized style guide to be used by the operations organization
• Assist in developing and then subsequently managing a robust document audit program
• Review, revise, and ensure all operational documentation current and accurate
• Suggest and implement improvements to the shared documentation repository
• Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
• Review or edit documentation created by other team members or business units
• Strong ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail
• Excellent ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
• Experience translating business specifications into user documentation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Visio)
• Experience interacting with all levels of the organization
• Good at learning new software packages quickly
• Proficient in managing multiple assignments simultaneously while working independently and with other teams
• Capable of managing time and workload to meet project demands and deadlines, identify obstacles, assume responsibility for finding solutions, and timely communication of concerns and risks.
• Adept at adapting document style and readability for the intended target audience
