Overview:

Alteryx, Inc. has an opening for a talented Technical Writer to join our Product Management team in Broomfield, CO. We are looking for a smart, energetic individual to create customer-facing documents explaining our suite of Alteryx products as well as the underlying technology. You will be responsible for all web and paper documentation, creating a style guide, and collaborating with engineers, product managers, and test automation personnel to gather data for the documents. Your major task will be to not only create content but also set up an environment where new documents can be quickly created and exposed to customers as well as delivering the documents online as new features get rolled out. The successful candidate will also be an expert at synthesizing technical information for maximum usefulness to enable our users to get the full value from our products quickly.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with product management and engineering and create technical and user documents for Alteryx products.

  • Establish documentation processes, set timelines and schedules, and work with various engineering teams to gather and organize content for each release.

  • Gather and publish release notes.

  • Create and storyboard the documentation sitemap and drive content creation for online customer-facing documentation.

  • Read design documents, QA test plans, and MRDs/PRDs to determine appropriate presentation of content to technical and business users.

  • Design and develop clear, concise, complete, and correct technical copy in a single sourcing environment using structured writing.

  • Create and manage content for in-product tutorials and examples.

  • Provide input to the design workflows.

  • Apply standards to UX design fields, menus, labels, tooltips and other copy.

Skills and attributes:

  • 5-8 years relevant work experience, preferably in a cloud based enterprise software company in the areas of technical marketing, product documentation, and technical writing.

  • Exceptional copy writing skills and the ability to assimilate complex technologies and synthesize them into crisp documents.

  • Web-based document writing skills and experience setting up and maintaining tutorials and online help.

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or Journalism.

  • Experience working for a SaaS analytics company a plus.

  • Familiarity with databases and/or big data is a plus.

You'll write and update articles for Code42's support site, collaborate with developers and user experience designers on user interface text, and relentlessly seek to improve the customer experience through both small improvements and big ideas. The right candidate for the senior technical writer position is a seasoned, self-motivated, professional team player able to tackle complex issues and writing tasks. YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR: * Planning, writing, editing, and publishing product help and technical documentation that is accurate, comprehensive, clear, searchable, and trustworthy. * Continuously improving content in response to frequent product changes and feedback from customers and colleagues. * Leading and assisting with writing projects, process improvements, or other projects, as needed. * Actively participating in cross-functional Agile scrum teams, advocating for our users and creating an exceptional information experience for all self-service help content. * Reviewing and editing content for other team members. * Staying up-to-date on security best practices and championing them in your work. * Using and embracing modern technologies and new approaches for communication and information consumption. * Routinely applying obsessive attention to detail and organization in all aspects of work, from organizing ideas in articles to adhering to style and organizational standards. * Championing consistency within our help content and the product, but not at the expense of clarity. * Using Jira and Confluence to track and manage work assignments and projects. SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: * BS/BA Degree or equivalent, preferably in Technical Communications, Information Systems, Computer Science, English, Journalism, or another related field. * 5+ years of experience writing for software applications. * Solid foundation in using at least two of these operating systems: Windows, macOS, and Linux/UNIX. * Extensive experience working with client-server software in an enterprise environment. * Strong aptitude and passion for learning new technologies and understanding how to use those technologies in a dynamic customer environment. * Proficient in configuring and using test environments to validate content. * Excellent communication and organization skills. * Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction. * Consistently demonstrate a professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and sensitivity in handling confidential information. PREFERRED: * Experience writing for or working with security practitioners. * A link to something that showcases your work, such as your personal website or technical blog, a website you've built, or other samples of technical writing work where you were the primary author. * Experience working with a programming language such as Python, Javascript, PHP, or others. * Familiarity with SEO best practices and Google Analytics. * Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware, VirtualBox, or others.
