Role and Scope of Position:
This position develops and conducts technical training programs to ensure the safe and effective performance of the Gas Operations employees. Training includes both classroom and on-the-job training and would incorporate both conceptual and hands-on instructional methods. Responsibilities would also include participation in testing and evaluation of new tools, materials, and equipment, the ongoing revision and maintenance of standards and procedures, conducting of quality assurance audits and supervision evaluation and certification of field employees.
Individual plans, designs, develops, coordinates, and conducts effective safety, regulatory and technical training programs and materials that ensure full compliance with the Company's safety policies and and programs, and existing and future governmental codes and regulations for Eversource gas and other functions, and outside entities when requested. Individual is also responsible for identifying training needs related to Natural Gas Systems and associated equipment including emergency procedures.
The individual provides training to meet the requirements of the Company's Apprentice program(s); provides proctoring, follow-up and remedial training for Operator Qualification and annual Pipe Joining Qualification; identifies pertinent safety issues and incorporates them into training programs; and provides on-the-job training as required. The individual also interprets local, state, and national codes for field personnel as requested. The individual also evaluates performance during training and follows up student learning through field visits, observations and refresher training.
In addition, this individual is responsible for scheduling instructors who have expertise in specific areas for Company training programs, and providing training and assistance to other gas departments as necessary. Individual provides updates and incorporates new procedures and revisions into training programs and reviews work with vendors, technical experts, engineers and field personnel to provide operations input into the selection and operation of new equipment and development of new operating standards.
A Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of related experience OR an Associate's degree plus seven (7) years of related experience OR a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.
An in-depth knowledge of theory, installation, operation and maintenance of natural gas distribution and/or meter systems; associated equipment and emergency response is required. The ability to plan, design, develop, schedule, coordinate and present training programs; the ability to conduct and interpret training needs analyses; and the ability to evaluate trainee performance in classroom and field environments and provide effective feedback is required. Basic computer skills and experience working with PowerPoint and Word are desirable.
Knowledge of distribution system design, operations, maintenance, and construction principles and practices, safety standards and business processes.
Excellent communication skills, ability to present theory and concepts, as well as hands-on technical instruction with clarity, confidence and enthusiasm.
Requires leadership and coaching abilities.
Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g. Microsoft Word & Excel).
Working knowledge of labor contracts.
Licenses & Certifications:
Massachusetts Driver's License, D.O.T. preferred
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Primary location will be Berlin, CT. With some flexibility to work out of additional area work centers in CT and/or MA.
This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position.
As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.
