AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Senior Technical Training. This candidate will be responsible for the supervision of a six-man team that provides classroom and deck plate training to U.S.

Navy Sailors in LHD class ships, as part of the Engineering Readiness Assist Team. They will supervise the embedded trainers supporting TYCOM/ISIC in improving operation and maintaining main propulsion equipment, electrical generation, damage control, and auxiliary systems aboard ship. Training efforts will include classroom and ship visit training events for up to six weeks at a time and may include overseas travel.

Training will be conducted in the primary ship homeports and include underway time. Trainers will work with specifically identified ships in order to improve overall crew knowledge and subsequent ship readiness.

Job Requirements

  • 20 years and multiple Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) qualifications in steam plants.

  • Must have prior LHD experience as Chief Engineer.

  • Highly skilled & experienced former Naval officers with tours as Chief Engineers, Main Propulsion Assistants and Engineering division officers are encouraged to apply, Afloat Training Group members, INSURV inspectors, and former Merchant Mariners with comparable experience.

  • Must be eligible for a security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

  • Significant experience in gas turbine ships, master training specialist qualification, and/or naval instructor podium time are all highly desired attributes.

Writes and edits complex technical C4I-related documents, including deliverables, manuals, reports, specifications and procedures in conformance with the customer's writing and documentation review process. Duties and Responsibilities Consults with customer or technical staff to determine most appropriate schedule of deliverables and objectives for large technical writing projects. Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits complex technical documents for publication. Edits documentation for style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to customer guidelines. Interacts closely with authors, other Technical Editor-Writers, word processing, graphics, and reproduction staff in the preparation and production of a variety of documents. Researches technical concepts. Creates new or modifies existing technical documents that are complex in nature. Conducts interviews with various technical staff to gather data for documentation. Coordinates large production efforts. Evaluates and provides feedback on draft documents and attends documentation reviews. Checks classified documentation for proper security markings. Coordinates production of the final documentation (print to CD-ROM) with the authors and publication staff. Prepares the transmittal memorandums and coordinates the transmission of documentation to sponsors. Provides guidance to less experienced Technical Editor-Writers. May require additional Information Assurance-related certifications such as CompTIA Security +, CISSP etc. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, computer science, or related discipline plus minimum of 4 years of experience, including 2 years of specialized experience in the information systems field. Ability to interface with development team and end-users to understand functional requirements to develop processes and procedures. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
