What you'll do

The Technical Team Leader, Laboratory will work Full-time, Days, and will coordinate functions and activities of the shift including the review and reporting of results. The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory works closely with other laboratory staff to provide a smooth operating and efficient section/shift. The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory provides prompt and accurate laboratory test results and/or prepares products for transfusion in support of patient care. They also correlate knowledge and understanding of theory to independently solve problems and answer questions. The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory is responsible to direct, review, and /or verify work of other clinical laboratory personnel. The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory gathers data for special projects to support the quality initiatives of the department. The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory also performs the duties of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (see below).

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Medical Technologist) performs clinical laboratory procedures, examinations and any other tests or procedures conducted by a clinical laboratory, as defined by Title Five of Article Five of the New York State public health law.

The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory also provides prompt and accurate laboratory test results and/or prepares products for transfusion in support of patient care, including maintaining equipment and records, and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance, which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, as determined by the department. The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory correlates knowledge and understanding of theory to independently solve problems and answer questions. They may be assigned responsibility to direct, review, and /or verify work of other clinical laboratory personnel and or/students.

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory works independently to oversee and coordinate technical functions and activities of the technical area while ensuring adherence to regulations and service to laboratory customers. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of daily work.

  • Assists with result review for the clinical lab tests performed over the past 24 hours as defined by the technical section and shift in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  • Prioritizes workflow on an ongoing basis in order to maintain established turnaround times, adjusting staff as necessary to assure urgent patient needs are met

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory participates in the weekly section schedule and assignments. Assesses and responds to workload regularly so as to ensure that the shift gets assistance when they need it

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory ensures follow-up has occurred for section related items in the administrative communication book and section specific communication books or from daily huddles

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory is self-directed. Prioritizes tasks without intervention from the Technical Specialist/supervisor.

  • Sets an example in work performance and team building, concern for patients and co-workers by maintaining a positive interpersonal approach and demeanor.,.

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory works directly with the Technical Specialist/Supervisor to assure compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards

  • Assists the Technical Specialist Supervisor with the development of proposals for improved efficiency, safety and performance improvement initiatives offering suggestions with follow through.

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory performs and verifies (reports) laboratory tests and/or prepares products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner.

  • Performs quality control (QC), and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned.

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory maintains laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies required in performance of job responsibilities.

  • Follows all institution and department policies and procedures.

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory assists with the training of new staff assigned by Technical Specialist/Supervisor. Gathers data for special projects to support the quality initiatives of the department. Performs supervisory functions in the absence of the Technical Specialist.

  • Any Clinical Laboratory Technologist meeting NYSDOH qualifications of supervisor (part 58 of 10 NYCR, section 1.4) may be required to perform supervisory functions in the absence of the regular supervisor.

  • The Technical Team Leader for Laboratory performs similar or related duties within their scope of practice as assigned.

What we need from you

Education:

  • Qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations, required

Experience:

  • Requires one of the following:

  • At least 6 years of varied Laboratory experience following completion of a Bachelor's Degree

  • At least 4 years of varied Laboratory experience following the completion of an Associate's Degree

  • Previous direct experience with a LIS is desired.

License/Certification:

  • Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.

  • Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit.

Pay Range

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. The above compensation range represents a good faith belief of the compensation range by Bassett Healthcare Network, and its entities and affiliates, at the time of this posting or advertisement.

Pay Range Minimum:

USD $36.76/Hr.

Pay Range Maximum:

USD $55.13/Hr.
