Associate's degree, an equivalent technical degree/certification or evidence of progress towards completion of a degree and/or technical certification. Entry level experience as a technician in a technology environment.

Preferred

Associate's degree with documented level of security training or industry certification. Experience in help desk technician role, prior experience as a trainee or student technician. Must have knowledge of basic standards, guidelines, and best practices relative to information technology.

Primary Responsibilities

Summary

The Technical Support Specialist II delivers customer support by troubleshooting and maintaining information technology resources including computers, printers, scanners, phones, and other administrative and classroom equipment.

Duties

Maintaining and responsibly supporting hardware, software, equipment, peripherals, and tools. Utilizing endpoint management software while providing detailed, accurate reports and documentation.

Efficiently responding to requests for assistance from faculty, staff, and students. Collaborating with personnel within the Office of Information Technology and other departments across all SRSU campuses. Assisting in the implementation of inventory management plans and procedures.

Engaging in educational and training opportunities with the goal of achieving a high degree of technical competency. Identifying procedure improvements and communicating end user concerns to the Help Desk Coordinator. Providing front-line support for information technology resources. Performs additional job-related duties and responsibilities as requested.

Skills

Basic analytical and computer skills. Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to relate to individuals in a multicultural environment. Ability to organize and work effectively with an understanding of policies and procedures. Proficient in communicating technical concepts and issues with both technical and non-technical individuals.

Capable of establishing effective work relationships with faculty, staff, and students. Knowledge of standards, guidelines, and best practices relative to information technology.

Working Conditions

Position is based in Alpine, Texas. May be required to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Exempt from overtime provisions. Position is security sensitive.

Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.

Other Information

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

The report contains information regarding campus safety and security including topics such as: campus law enforcement authority; crime reporting policies; campus alerts (Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications); fire safety policies and procedures; programs to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; the procedures the University will follow when one of these crimes is reported; and other matters of importance related to security on campus. The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
