Title: Technical Support Specialist II, Student Information

Job Summary:

Responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of the student information data systems and/or networks at the District level with an emphasis State and Federal Reporting guidelines and requirements; Provides support to a cluster of schools for the overall collection and maintenance of data for the Student Information System in support of effective instructional practices, communication, and operation efficiency of Student Information

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates timely and accurate data collection for assigned schools for State and Federal reporting procedures

  • Provides support and assistance to assigned schools with data collection necessary for student information reporting

  • Serves as a liaison between the schools and the District office in regards to student information data collection through the creation and ongoing effective work of the school based SIS teams; school sites and departments across the District to verify SIS requirements, and for protocols to be me

  • Must respond to submitted Service Desk tickets within stated SLA

  • Communicates regularly with schools via phone, email, and site visits

  • Supports and maintains the established SIS acceptable use policy for data entry at the school level

  • Completes the development and maintenance of necessary support and training materials for the District; Responds to any training needs identified by the schools

  • Gathers feedback from school sites on the SIS to determine which components could be mollified or added from the District to meet school data needs

  • Supports deployment of SIS enhancement tools

  • Assists in troubleshooting, analysis of data, application and system hardware errors to assist in determining root causes

  • Assists with efforts of other divisions/departments to integrate SIS with other applications and initiatives

  • Updates all training materials and provides training to identified stakeholders

  • Takes on and manages projects from start to finish

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Education and Experience

Education:

  • Associates Degree required or equivalent experience (In lieu of degree, will consider 2 years of related technology experience per year of college (4 years)
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Student Information Systems in a data support role

Certification/Licensure:

  • None required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with State and local Board rules and regulations

  • Working knowledge of current versions of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Salary Information:

Salary Range for 2019-2020

  • $46,271 - $54,610

Step placement credit may be granted for up to a maximum of 8 years (Step 9) of prior verifiable experience. Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Non-Teaching Salary Schedule A-235, Professional Scale, Step 1 - Step 9.

Strong interpersonal and communications skills will be necessary to succeed. * Provide proactive application and technical support for RMS end users, which includes performing detailed investigations to identify root causes/fixes for complex issues * Work directly with clients and internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner * Document, route, track, escalate and update customers, as well as RMS management, on status of issues as required * Utilize tools and systems proficiently to document activity and effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues * Ensure customer satisfaction through outstanding customer service and high-quality responses * Build rapport and elicit problem details from non-technical or technical customers * Support other requests as required, including dealer interaction and internal reporting and analysis requests * Maintain regular interactions with technology and program teams to manage fixes for production service issues * Perform system testing as a final validation before release to customer * Effectively prioritize and escalate customer issues as required * Maintain an in-depth understanding of RMS' products and support protocols * Perform other support and operational tasks as required * Participate in weekend on-call rotation for critical issues escalation Qualifications: * BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience required. * 3+ years Tier 2/3 enterprise-level technical and application support experience preferred * Prior project management experience preferred * An understanding of the role of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) within an IT environment. * Sound analytical, organizational and planning skills and the ability to achieve multiple team and customer objectives independently and in a deadline-sensitive fashion * Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written * Ability to work independently but with a team-focused approach within multi-disciplinary teams and quickly adapt to job requirements changing on an ad hoc basis * Total commitment to quality and attention to detail * Enthusiasm for product knowledge acquisition * Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. * 0-15% Travel * Off-hours, on-call support may apply * Requires physical ability and mental acuity to execute the duties of the position successfully within required timeframes in order to meet business requirements.
