Secret Job Description: Raytheon Missile Systems (RMS) operates and maintains a variety of technical laboratories in all of our plant sites across the USA.
The Electronics Technology Department, which functions within the Electrical Subsystems Directorate (ESD), is responsible for multiple engineering laboratories.
We are seeking a Prototype Machinist to join our team in supplying outstanding support in the development and prototyping of products.
The successful candidate will be able to perform complex setups, troubleshoot and proficiently operate all machines in a production facility or all computer numerical control (CNC), grinding or jig bore machine families.
This position requires thorough knowledge of all machine speeds, feeds, materials, cutter tool geometry and safe operating practices.
This position will also perform instruction and training for coworkers, including checking setups, work and operation of equipment.
This position works closely with engineering personnel in multiple organizations including SMEs, REAs, IPT Leads, and Chief Engineers.
As a member of the team, this position requires the planning, layout, fabrication and assembly of developmental type parts and assemblies, tools and fixtures.
Responsible for the up and operation of a variety of manual and Computer Numerical Control machines with minimal direct supervision.
Requires a comprehensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to use a variety of standard equipment to maintain integrity of conformance to part tolerances during fabrication.
Performs offline programming on a Bridgeport using master-cam programming software to setup and fabricate complex precision developmental parts and potential pre-production parts.
Produce parts out of materials ranging from standard to exotic.
In this position, the Prototype Machinist must be able to collaborate with customers, employees, and program leaders.
Candidates should be able to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously with diverse groups and customers.
Key Responsibilities: Set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machines such as, jig bores, lathes, mills grinders etc.
Fabricates and adapts standard and temporary tooling such as soft jaws, jigs and fixtures etc.
to accomplish assigned tasks.
Performs offline programming on Computer Numerical Control machinery to setup and fabricate complex developmental parts, tooling and potential pre-production parts.
Sets up and operates Precision Tool Room Lathes in the fabrication of prototype parts.
Communicates and interacts with engineering and support personnel such as, design engineers, tool engineers and maintenance personnel.
Promote a cooperative environment improving the development of parts and tooling that are functional as well as producible.
Verifies quality of work to specifications using measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial calipers, indicators, thread and height gauges, etc.
Ensure RMS and Customer property is properly tracked and maintained.
Required Education, Experience and Skills Minimum of 2 Years experience, with related Bachelors Degree in a technology discipline.
A Degree in Math, Science, or Engineering preferred.
CNC machining skills required.
Demonstrated capability to perform a broad, diverse range of technical tasks and/or very specific technical tasks in the engineering disciplines.
Ability to provide hands on technical support during research and development phases through demonstration tests.
Capable of giving detailed instructions and expressing technical concepts clearly.
Ability to work with large and small teams, depending on circumstances.
Experience working in an engineering lab environment.
Experience with sketches, drawings, blueprints and other development documentation.
The ability to coordinate with various engineering disciplines and subject matter experts.
Possess strong communication and interpersonal/human relations skills.
2 or more years of relevant experience in electrical and mechanical fabrication.
This position requires the ability to obtain and hold a DoD secret security clearance.
This position requires the successful issuance, transfer or maintenance of any clearances and/or accesses necessary for the position.
Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.
