Bi-Weekly Salary: Level I: $2,583.85 - $3,087.94; Level II: $2,715.99 - $3,245.86

EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:

Qualified candidates will be notified of the testing date five days prior to the examination.

Examinations: Written Exam (Weight 100%): will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of the procedures and techniques used in the installation, configuration, support troubleshooting and repair of applicable operating systems, server and storage related equipment, software applications, other IT hardware and peripherals; network  and security concepts; basic network administration; Directory Services, such as Active Directory; general principles of office automation, and computer systems analysis; techniques to evaluate customers' needs and requirements and identify possible business solutions.

The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant a written examination.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

This position works in various departments throughout Kern County. 

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:

Level I:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, including 15 semester (25 quarter) units in computer science or management information systems AND one (1) year of paid experience in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support, troubleshooting and resolution of network problems, managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization.

OR

Completion of (60) semester (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in computer science or management information systems AND three (3) years of paid experience, one (1) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support, troubleshooting and resolution of network problems, managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization.

OR

Completion of an accredited trade or vocational school training program in computer repair, computer science or information systems AND three (3) years paid experience, one (1) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support, troubleshooting and resolution of network problems, managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization.

OR

Two (2) years of experience as a Technical Support Specialist III in the Kern County classification systems.

OR

Five (5) years of experience, three (3) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support, troubleshooting and resolution of network problems, managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization.

Level II

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, including 15 semester (25 quarter) units in computer science or management information systems AND two (2) years of paid experience, one (1) of which must have been paid experience in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support, troubleshooting and resolution of network problems, managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization.

OR

Completion of (60) semester (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in computer science or management information systems AND four (4) years of paid experience, two (2) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support, troubleshooting and resolution of network problems, managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization.

Two (2) years of experience as a Technical Support Engineer I in the Kern County classification systems.

OR

Six (6) years of experience, four (4) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support, troubleshooting and resolution of network problems, managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization.

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
