Primary Purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to administer and maintain the technical aspects of Allen ISD Performance Venues. This position will also support the overall daily operations of venues and manage events within the performance spaces. Additional responsibilities will include assisting in the management of the Student Worker Program and venue maintenance/operations as directed.

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Performing Arts, Arts Management or equivalent experience.
  • CAD experience, PLASA / ETCP certification a plus.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Comprehensive experience and skills in all areas of performing arts production (Carpentry, Electrics, Audio & Video) and processes

  • Skill in operating, troubleshooting and maintaining theatrical technical systems

  • Competence to learn proprietary control systems and mechanics of unique equipment (motorized acoustic curtain panel, motorized pit lift, trap room, performance shell, motorized fly systems

  • Knowledgeable in multiple types of theatrical hardware and equipment.

  • Experience in maintenance, basic repair, and troubleshooting of lighting, sound, and carpentry rigging equipment.

  • Excellent understanding of all aspects of live entertainment.

  • Ability to read, draw and interpret site diagrams, location maps, plots etc.

  • Ability to operate personnel lifts.

  • Capable of working at elevated heights, 75' and over. Able to lift over 50 pounds.

  • Available to work frequent long and varied hours including weekends.

  • Must have the ability to function with minimal or no supervision using independent judgement

  • Skill in providing exceptional customer service including assessing customer needs, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Able to maintain calm, clear, logical thoughts and actions in accordance with District policy during changing and stressful situations

  • Able to identify solutions and maintain flexibility when emergency situations present unanticipated problems

  • Communication skills to encourage collaboration between event stakeholders and staff to improve service delivery

  • The ideal candidate will strive to always keep the end goal of producing outstanding events while supporting high student achievement and customer satisfaction

Central Event Organization

  • Ability to act as the central repository of all event details and distribute those details to the appropriate parties (security, event staff, custodial, campus administration, etc.) in a timely manner

  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of issues

Efficient

  • Ability to thrive, meet deadlines and remain flexible in an ever-changing fast paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years progressive experience in theatrical operations and maintenance.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

This position requires a varied schedule including holidays, early-morning, night and weekend work.

EVENTS (Planning, Execution, Evaluation)

Pre-Event: hire staffing and relay pertinent event information, ensure that venue is prepped and ready for the public, setup and test production equipment, perform safety walks backstage and in public areas to ensure that unauthorized areas are secure from the public. Draft and distribute event floor plan drawings to event setup crews.

During Event: serve as Manager on Duty for assigned events, respond to emergency situations, ensure that all event needs are met, oversee the operation of event equipment, responsible for the life-safety of up to 1,000 patrons, performers and crew during an event. As needed, function has house technician.

Post-Event: strike all event equipment, return venue to school-ready state, and meet with event staff/venue management to discuss future event improvements.

VENUE (Maintenance & Operations)

  • Develop a venue management plan that ensures support and customer service to all events and presenters. Implement, manage and communicate this plan to all necessary stakeholders.

  • Operate as Crew Lead for work calls, load-ins, strikes and maintenance.

  • Lead and participate in venue changeovers including planning, checklists and advancement.

  • Maintain an inventory of all production equipment, ensuring proper working condition.

  • Coordinate repairs of production equipment as needed.

  • Create and refine systems and procedures to protect the longevity of the venue.

  • Coordinate with Facilities and Maintenance department to develop preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Ensure safety procedures are in place and complied with to protect the public, performers, and crew.

  • Coordinate, plan and direct setup logistics with custodial staff to ensure event success

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ability to provide leadership for up to 15 staff members (including student workers and contractors) during events.

  • Available to be contacted for technical assistance in case of emergencies as possible

Customer Care Skills:

  • Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other professionals at all times.

  • Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to appropriate staff.

  • Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.

  • Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.

  • Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress

Salary: Pay Grade TG04. $265.52 - $322.20 daily rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
