Job Description:
SUNY Schenectady County Community College is currently seeking a Technical Specialist/Purchaser in the School of Hotel, Culinary Arts & Tourism (HCAT). The Technical Specialist/Purchaser will be responsible for performing various tasks that involve support for culinary classes. The Technical Specialist/Purchaser will also be responsible for scheduling and supervising educational aides, work study students and student workers. May serve as a substitute when the faculty are not available, as deemed necessary by the Administration. In addition, the Technical Specialist/Purchaser will work collaboratively with the Senior Technical Specialist to assure complete coverage and professionalism in the HCAT laboratories. This position reports to the Dean of School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Purchasing of Products

Purchasing of small and large equipment and food and beverages. Receiving requisitions from Faculty members, posting the orders, and ordering the products

Culinary Lab Classes

Preparing carts and supplies for culinary lab classes Substituting in the absence of a faculty member

Maintenance

Ensuring that the equipment is in appropriate working condition. Providing for outside maintenance repairs on equipment when necessary.

Scheduling yearly maintenance on the equipment, such as cleaning of the exhaust. Maintaining the HCAT Master Cleaning Schedule. Maintaining an equipment inventory to include dates purchased and warranties

Receiving, Storage and Inventory

Accepting and checking in deliveries of food, beverages, and equipment. Counting and posting inventory weekly. Food costing and food cost percentage calculation Maintaining the master inventory spreadsheet to include updating unit prices Creating and maintaining par stocks.

Miscellaneous Duties

Conducting tours with prospective HCAT students. Updating MSDS sheets. Assisting with yearly activities and special events.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in a hospitality or related field Supervisory experience in the food service industry Experience in purchasing, receiving, and ordering of food in hospitality setting Experience with Excel and knowledge of HACCP standards Must be ServSafe certified or willing to become certified within three months of hire Experience in food costing and food cost percentage calculation Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time Frequently moves inventory weighing up to 50 pounds

Preferred Requirements :

Bachelor's degree in a hospitality or related field

Special Information:

Additional Information:
Salary: $45,000/year
