Position Description

Nashville Education, Community, and Arts Television (NECAT) is a non-profit organization with a two-fold mission to expose middle TN viewers to arts and education programming created both locally and around the world and to teach individuals and organizations how to use NECAT equipment and resources to create and broadcast TV shows. NECAT produces three public television channels: Music City Arts (MCAtv)-arts channel, iQtv (education channel) and Access Nashville (community access channel).

This Technical Specialist 1 - NECAT Studio is a Civil Service position with the Nashville Public Library. It provides support to customers with technology networking and video/audio expertise in the production of TV programing.

Typical Duties

  • Performs difficult or complex professional work.

  • Performs administrative duties, writes reports and performs statistical analysis.

  • Keeps abreast of new trends in television technology.

  • Serves as technical expert for NECAT and across NPL in technology for television.

  • Maintains studio equipment.

  • Provides training to the public on production technology and how to use audio equipment in the studio.

  • Operates cameras, tripods, pedestals, video monitors, microphones, video switcher, audio console and studio lighting.

  • Performs audio technician duties for events and studio recordings.

  • Edits NECAT produced events and assists the public with editing their projects.

  • Ensures NECAT channels have content running continuously.

  • Provides assistance with use of non-linear editing systems and media playback server maintenance.

  • Keeps calendar with classes, producer bookings and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent and eight(8) years of technical experience using video, lighting, audio and associated software tools necessary in the development and broadcast of video programs.

  • additional related education may be substituted for experience.

LICENSE REQUIRED:

Valid Driver's License

Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience working in a studio providing TV programming

  • Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Arabic or Kurdish preferred)
