Technical Services Assistant

High Point University is currently seeking a part-time Technical Services Assistant. This position supports library technical services by prepping, cataloging and processing materials to go into the High Point University Library collections.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Undergraduate degree and some experience in an academic library setting. Current or future MLS student preferred.

Experience and Training

• Some knowledge of cataloging preferred

• Experience working in an academic library

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

• Organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail

• Technical computer skills

• Oral and written communication skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Copy cataloging, including record selection in OCLC, assigning call numbers, and physical processing of library materials.

• Cataloging books for the new law library collections and reclassifying materials from Dewey Decimal to Library of Congress classification.

• De-selection and discarding unused or damaged items.

• Assisting with book repair and some design work in Canva (creating dust jackets).

• Assuring the accuracy of digital records and holdings.

• Contributing to a positive work atmosphere by communicating effectively with students, faculty, co-workers, and managers.

• Other duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Assists with online searching, downloading, cataloging, reclassification, processing, and withdrawal of all formats.

• Reports to the Technical Services Librarians.
