Organizational Context and Job Purpose

Organizational Context:

The GAS/SPEC Technology Group has a long history in the global market for treating gas and liquid streams with amines in a wide variety of applications, such as natural gas processing, oil refining, ammonia production, hydrogen processing, and a variety of other specialty treating applications. The business leverages our excellent process know-how and technical expertise to differentiate our speciality amine offering from that of our competitors. GAS/SPEC is well positioned to take advantage of increased treating capacity required to support the massive shale gas growth in the US. In addition, the business is evaluating potential growth opportunities in support of natural gas and refining production around the globe.

Purpose of the job:

The TS&D Engineers provide direct support to GAS/SPEC Customers, distributors, engineering firms, and equipment suppliers to build GAS/SPEC technology and specialty amines sales. Travel can be as high as 50% and may include both domestic US and international travel. The scope and amount of travel will be dependent on the specific region, accounts and activities that the TS&D Engineer is supporting. The breadth of work for a TS&D Engineer covers a wide range, including, but not limited to, process simulation, chemistry consultation, process start-up consultation, and equipment troubleshooting.

Environment/Context:

Our engineers become expert in process simulators specific to the reactive absorption of amine treating as well as equipment design and troubleshooting. Generally, the members of the group are seen as an "industry expert" in the oil & gas industry in a relatively short period of time due to the high number of plants and systems evaluated each quarter.

Long term growth opportunities within the group expand into all functions of an operating specialty chemical business from R&D projects to even dual technical-commercial responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Cover direct consultation with 10-30+ operating GAS/SPEC amine accounts

  • Handle inquiry simulations and responses for new specialty amine applications, often following through to start-up, RTO and continuing service of the plant

  • Learn and manage a specific functional area for the GAS/SPEC amine business, for example quality, compliance, or specific technology focus or research project based on interest and business need

  • Collaborate with the GAS/SPEC commercial account manager for each customer account

  • Work closely with our channel to market distributor for each account managed

  • Learn and fully comply with our safety procedures and regulations, and those at third party sites. Be willing to speak up, in a constructive manner, if you recognize any unsafe acts or conditions

Skills & Knowledge Required

Level of education & experience in general:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years chemical industry experience preferred, including at least 1 year of plant/operations experience

Technical skills:

  • Proficient in chemical reaction, and chemical unit operations (distillation, flash separation, compression, heat exchange), equipment sizing, and process simulation

  • Deep understanding of chemical process control, safety in design, emergency relief and protective systems

  • Deep understanding of process equipment sizing

  • Strength in process simulation (flow sheeting, fluid flow and heat exchange)

  • Fluent in English (Second language is desirable)

  • Experience with Process simulation tools like ASPEN, Hysis, and/or most preferred ProTreat & Promax

  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.

ADA Physical requirements, visual acuity requirements and environmental conditions

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)
