Research Assistant Position - Neurogenomics & Translational Bioinformatics Laboratory (NG-TBL)

The Neurogenomics & Translational Bioinformatics Laboratory (NG-TBL) at McLean Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Research Assistant. Under the guidance of Dr. Nikolaos Daskalakis, the NG-TBL focuses on advancing our understanding of neurogenomics and translational bioinformatics, with the ultimate goal of uncovering insights into neuropsychiatric disorders.
Position overview:
As a Research Assistant in the NG-TBL, you will play a crucial role in various laboratory experiments and maintaining the general lab environment, while having a specific focus on expanding our single cell genomics work. Your main responsibilities will include:
Learning and applying the 10x Genomics single cell protocol to isolate nuclei from brain tissue and in vitro cell cultures, and generate single nucleus libraries ready for sequencing.
Help in maintaining, performing and optimizing ongoing in vitro experiments. This can also include preparing the different reagents and materials needed for every experiment.
Be responsible for weekly inventory checks, ordering and storing lab supplies to ensure the smooth progression of research activities.
Be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized lab environment which includes monitoring and refilling our liquid nitrogen tanks as needed, refilling ethanol bottles, appropriately disposing of cell culture waste containers, etc.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry). Master's degree is a plus.
At least 1 year experience in a laboratory setting (incl. working with cell cultures) is required.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a research team.
Effective English communication skills, both written and verbal.
