Job Description:

Summary

The VDPAM Technical Project Specialist II is responsible for the development, promotion, and implementation of veterinary courses, client education initiatives, and research projects related to water quality and biosecurity. This role involves collaborating with faculty, industry partners, and veterinary diagnostic professionals to enhance educational programs, improve diagnostic service utilization, and support research efforts. The coordinator ensures project alignment with institutional goals, oversees project timelines and budgets, and contributes to the advancement of veterinary education and research.

Key Responsibilities:

Development and Delivery of Courses to Other Veterinary Colleges

  • Develops, promotes, manages, and conducts small to moderately complex educational projects under faculty guidance.
  • Engages senior faculty to establish cost estimates, fee structures, and market potential for delivering food animal medicine courses.
  • Suggests and implements improvements to course quality and delivery.
  • Recruits faculty participation and integrates their expertise into course planning.

VDL Client/Producer Submission Education

  • Develops key educational materials with input from Diagnostic Pathologists and Section Leaders to enhance client understanding of Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) services.
  • Supports the creation of client-focused training materials, courses, and references to optimize VDL use.
  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate VDL best practices into veterinary curricula.
  • Evaluates training effectiveness using established metrics and rubrics.

Research in Water Quality and Biosecurity

  • Coordinates data collection, analysis, and methodology development within research projects.
  • Contributes to research publications and presentations at conferences.
  • Assists in acquiring research funding and grant writing under faculty supervision.
  • Manages project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while liaising with industry and academic partners.
  • Develops research protocols, refines methodologies, and supports the optimization of project outcomes.

Example of Duties

  • Develops and manages technical project plans; suggests options for improving quality and delivery, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions; and is accountable for project milestones.
  • Utilizes technical expertise to provide guidance and collaborate in the development of new techniques, experimental design, products, equipment, and/or processes to meet project deliverables.
  • Operates with considerable latitude to overcome technical challenges and project decisions.
  • Oversees day-to-day operation of project, including budget, timelines, and deliverables, and provides direction to other project staff.
  • Completes technical documentation to show and ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations, protocols, and project expectations.• Provides oversight of project and/or processes, while working to maintain optimization of project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Participates in and provides oversight to data collection, data verification, data interpretation and report writing.
  • Prepares and presents data and reports to project stakeholders such as senior colleagues, project managers, and/or industry partners.
  • May act as liaison to industry and/or university partners depending on project needs.
  • May participate in risk assessments of project, equipment, and/or processes.

Level Guidelines

  • Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
  • Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
  • Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
  • May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
  • May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity• Provides guidance to students
