Division: Academic Affairs Position Reports To: CTE Department Chair
Job Summary:
The Technical Program Assistant position serves in a support role to the College's Welding program and other CTE programs as needed The position will assist the primary faculty member(s) with the supervision of students in the technical lab and classroom instruction of SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes. Additional teaching duties may be assigned for technical support courses. This is a 10-month, instructional staff position primarily providing instructional, retention and recruitment support to the welding programs located in Arkansas City, Wellington, and Mulvane.
Position Duties:
Provide instructional support for Cowley College's state approved courses in Welding.
Assist primary faculty with:
Creation of curriculum, instructional materials, and oversight of classroom, lab, and equipment
Instructing students in competency-based program curriculum using current instructional strategies appropriate to the subject matter to assure highest quality classroom instruction.
Effectively managing the classroom to create an optimal learning environment, maintaining an appropriate balance of classroom discipline and safety.
Maintaining up-to-date records of student attendance, academic progress and grades as required by College policy and certification/regulatory agencies.
Recruitment, advising, and maintaining student retention.
Assist full time faculty and staff with Inventory records and Perkins reporting as needed.
Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.
Comply with all College policies and procedures.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrated proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and various cutting methods
Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Good communications skills, both written and spoken.
Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.
Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and diverse populations.
Required Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in welding from a regionally accredited educational institution with at least five years of related trade experience preferred.
Welding industry certification preferred
Certified Welding Educator preferred
Supervisory Requirements: None.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
Work performed in a classroom, laboratory and office environment.
