Job Summary and Mission

Join our nimble and collaborative team to unlock technology solutions for the Customer and Retail Technology organization. This role contributes to Starbucks success by building and sourcing tools for Quality, operational excellence, performance and security for the customer and retail technology org to better connect them to customers and drive key business outcomes.

This position contributes to Starbucks success by assuming end-to-end responsibility for the strategic value, usability, and performance of one or more of our Marketing Technology products. We design, build, and nurture a technology ecosystem that elevates the Starbucks brand and grows our business by amplifying human connections, relationships, and experiences. To be successful, the technical product manager, sr needs to have significant technical acumen and experience along with a passion for delighting product users with simple solutions and engaging personalized marketing experiences.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Product Definition & Value

  • Contributes innovative business capabilities and customer features informed by technology trends and business strategy to the product or service roadmap

  • Translates customer experience and business strategy requirements into technical requirements

  • Influences decisions by providing technical consultation and direction to stakeholders

  • Influences and documents non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, resilience, usability, accessibility, security, and business continuity

  • Collaborates with peer technology teams to align on solutions

  • Represents customer experience context to engineering teams

  • Creates acceptance criteria/requirements to align with customer, business, and technical strategy goals

  • Leads prioritization of backlog

  • Recommends new technology trends and innovative products/features to the team

Analysis & KPIs

  • Analyzes data and uses results to justify product decisions and apply key learnings

  • Defines product health and performance metrics and dashboard/reporting requirements, and KPIs to measure performance against feature goals

  • Identifies opportunities to improve feature performance and overall product health using data

  • Leads ongoing improvements to product performance

Leadership & Communication

  • Partners with engineering teams to apply knowledge/expertise in defining technical requirements and solution architecture, and understands technical debt and non-functional features to prioritize appropriately

  • Owns effective relationships with engineering teams across Starbucks Technology

  • Interacts directly with business stakeholders to understand business issues and to communicate ramifications of technical options

  • Eliminates ambiguity in feature criteria and goals

  • Presents solution options/recommendations clearly and persuasively to support business stakeholder decisions

  • Influences & negotiates with teams across Starbucks Technology, with business partners, and with third-party vendors and resolves most issues independently

  • Leads team members and peers in learning technical skills and business acumen

  • Act as coach and mentor to team members

Product Planning & Delivery

  • Identifies and documents technical tradeoffs as well as dependencies and constraints

  • Presents recommendations and influences alignment across neighbor ST teams

  • Performs validation of feature against stated goals; facilitates user review/acceptance testing

  • Works with cross-functional engineering teams on feature sizing and delivery planning

  • Practices iterative, agile development- Create epics, user stories, and partner with ST Product Management on acceptance criteria (ensure proper tagging, scalability, etc.)

  • Identifies and documents technical tradeoffs as well as dependencies and constraints

  • Performs validation of feature against stated goals; facilitates user review/acceptance testing

  • Manages execution and eliminates blocking issues during development

  • Works with cross-functional teams on feature sizing and delivery planning

  • Effective communications of product delivery milestones and progress

  • Acts as a liaison between vendors and business

  • Partner with delivery teams on release planning

  • Leads documentation of "to be" state i.e. API contracts including reconciliation and error handling, data flow diagrams and data mapping documents

  • Partner with Engineering and UX on Design and Prototypes to support hypothesis for new feature discovery

  • Track progress on KPIs and OKRs

  • Triage and facilitate bug resolution and prioritization and timing by partnering with ST Product Management, Engineering, vendors and across ST as needed

  • Facilitate/Participate in Backlog Refinement, Sprint Planning, Sprint Retrospective and Sprint Demos

  • Ensure sprint plan aligns with Product Roadmap and Sprint Goals

Basic Qualifications

  • Education (minimum education level, degree or certification necessary): 4-year degree

  • Relevant functional/business process experience (minimum skills required): 7-10 years

  • Years of experience in specific field or utilizing designated skills (minimum needed to be qualified): 7-10

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7 years of industry experience in a technology environment with a record of successfully delivering complex products

  • Recent experience in Product design or building applications for web and/or mobile

  • Ability to read and understand programming languages

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, ability to quickly master new systems and/or processes, capacity to stay organized while managing competing priorities

  • Prior programming experience a plus

  • Hands on experience in developing technical roadmaps, story outlines, writing user stories, refining product backlogs, and coordinating/prioritizing conflicting requirements in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Detail- and results-oriented, able to analyze data to justify product decisions and apply key learnings.

  • Ability to thoroughly understand complex business and technical issues and influence decision making

  • Ability to plan for and review technical programming specifications

  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Consistently uses communications skills to influence outcomes

  • Ability to influence others without authority to get things done in a timely fashion

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Strong knowledge of agile development practices, methodologies, and tools

  • Ability to build consensus across a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Deep understanding of the system architecture and design concepts behind complex, enterprise-class software solutions at high transaction volumes

  • Familiarity with User Centered Design

  • Experience supporting Marketing organization
