Technical Partner - Mechanical Systems Engineering

Job Description Summary:
Partner with the Business and People (BP) Manager in leading the Mechanical Systems Engineering group by taking responsibility for the tactical execution of the Mechanical Systems Engineering function. Provide day-to-day technical leadership and mentoring for the group in addition to driving process creation, execution, and maintenance. On-board new engineers to the group and implement an on-going training plan for all of the engineers in the group to progress their skill development in support of their next career step.

Job Description:
At Maxar Space Solutions Group, Technical Partners have the following day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership to team members on tactical program or process issues

  • Direct the work efforts of the team for day-to-day activities

  • Advise the BP Manager in assigning resources and adding resources to the group.

  • Provide input to the BP Manager for performance reviews.

  • Establish and maintain methods of tracking and reporting of work in forms such as Visual Management Boards (VMB's), work reviews, etc.

  • Ensure adherence to technical, cost and schedule goals for projects and development efforts

  • Develop technical training and mentoring plans for team members in consultation with the BP Manager

  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with engineers to track technical progress and to understand technical development needs

  • Create and maintain technical processes and ensure adherence to those processes

  • Ensure Mechanical Systems Engineering related committees (Shock, Alignment Network/Mech Sys Performance Committee) are sustained

  • Acts as the Change Agent for the group looking for opportunities to improve processes and products to improve efficiency and job satisfaction for the employees

  • Responsible for leading the execution of annual objectives for the group, as flowed down from the BP Manager

  • Contribute to and coordinate technical inputs for proposal efforts in cooperation with the BP Manager

  • Develop and maintain the group's technology roadmaps in coordination with the business strategy for the department. Consult with the directorate technical partner cohort, systems engineering, and product development teams in roadmap development.

Job Requirements:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.

  • 7+ years of relevent engineering experience

  • Experience working with complex mechanical systems

  • Experience applying the systems engineering discipline to mechanical systems

  • Experience in leadership situations or roles

  • Experience implementing process improvement and/or creation

  • Familiarity with Visual Management Boards and other Lean Leadership strategies

The individual will have a vital role in ensuring that strategic client integrations are functioning optimally. The individual, in coordination with Partner Program Management, Customer Support, and Engineering organizations, will work to foster the relationship with our partner network, and will play a key primary role in delivering best-in-class support by providing supplemental operational reviews, documentation for issue root cause analysis, drive reporting for partner compliance tracking, and facilitate support for escalations. You will work alongside a team of highly skilled engineers who are responsible for delivering Cloudera's support services including assistance during engineering and operations of distributed systems and mission critical response for production customers. Strong communication, customer handling skills, and experience are critical for success in this role. Responsibilities: * Manage partners with Level 1 and/or Level 2 obligations to ensure end customer experience meets Cloudera's standards of excellence * Ensure partner support resources are enabled to provide support via training, tooling, best practices, etc. * Regularly review the partner support deliverables for Cloudera's partner network * Monitor Service Level Agreements and other key performance indicators (KPI) * Drive regular weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting of partner support performance on contractual obligations and KPIs * Run quality checks to ensure that partner support cases are handled with a high technical aptitude commensurate with defined L1/L2/L3 contractual obligations * Coordinate, communicate, and lead cross-functional efforts around escalations and engineering needs for the partner network * Contribute to partner support contract improvements as driven by Cloudera's support benchmarks * Ensure smooth communication between partner teams and Cloudera teams * Set standards for engagement between partner support and Cloudera Qualifications: * Must have a valid passport and be able to travel globally when needed * 2+ years of Support Management or Sustaining Engineering Management * 4+ years of Unix environment experience (Red Hat Linux) including shell scripting * 2+ years software development experience in C++ or Java and Python * Network monitoring and application instrumentation experience * System performance debugging and kernel forensics experience * Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills (TCP/IP, DNS, File system, Load balancing, etc) * Knowledge of file system, kernel and database internals – latency, throughput, reliability, availability, consistency, security, etc. * Strong knowledge of RDBMS concepts and SQL * Provisioning and operating a large-scale compute/storage systems * Strong analytical skills helping you understand caseload trends * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Experience in working with cross-functional/cross-department teams * Experience in project management is preferred * A self-starter with strong organization skills and resolution management Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with Hadoop * Experience with Cloudera products * Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Informatica, Platform or Microstrategy Cloudera Palo Alto CA
