Technical Marketing Content Creator

Smarthr is working with a company revolutionizing AI-powered analytics for video surveillance and is looking to hire an energetic content creator to join this early-stage team. The Technical Marketing Content Creator must be a hands-on marketer with a technical background–someone who can own and execute a marketing plan from the ground up, understand and evangelize the technical features of a video surveillance product, and evangelize the brand to B2B customers and end-users through multiple marketing channels.

The ideal candidate is a techie-turned-marketer with a solid technical background (possibly with an engineering background earlier in their career) augmented by hands-on, self-driven experience marketing a tech product, including content creation, B2B marketing, and social media campaigns. The candidate will be able to build a strong online presence, including website content, YouTube video content, LinkedIn blogs and content, and Google advertising, while also being able to produce offline case studies, flyers, and brochures when needed.

This position entails substantial responsibility, from understanding the customer experience and use case to defining company and product messaging, competitive positioning, and marketing voice. The successful applicant will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, sales, and customer support, to ensure that the company’s technical solutions are effectively explained to those who aren’t aware of them, and utilized to their full potential by those who are.

We are especially interested in candidates who are comfortable working with security cameras, IoT technologies, or smart home products, and would be able to install and configure a tech product while vlogging about the experience, picking up on and emphasizing product strengths, and describing how the product solves problems for its users. Past experience supporting or developing B2B relationships will be considered a big plus. Ownership of and comfort around tech products is an absolute must. Ability to own and complete projects with minimal supervision is a must. Experience in the security or video surveillance industry is NOT required as long as the technical and marketing chops to quickly learn a new market are present and backed by the communication skills to turn that knowledge into great marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Content Strategy and Creation:
    • Define company and product messaging and positioning across all channels
    • Create an informative technical content portfolio that effectively highlights the features and benefits of all company products and AI technology.
    • Design and create a wide breadth of marketing material, including web content (on Wordpress), video content (on Youtube), store content (on Shopify), and social media (primarily LinkedIn with some Facebook) for a variety of audiences.
  • Technical Communication Expertise:
    • Translate complex technical concepts effectively into clear, concise, and engaging narratives that resonate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Adapt technical content to suit various marketing channels and platforms, including websites, social media, and industry publications.
  • Competitive Analysis and B2B Collaboration:
    • Drive the development of marketing collateral, including product briefs and case studies that effectively communicate our unique value proposition.
    • Collaborate with marketers at partner companies on campaigns, websites, blogs, webinars, and other demand-gen vehicles.
  • Marketing Collaboration and Campaign Execution:
    • Drive influencer outreach and represent our product in forums of interest.
    • Be well-versed in the technical subject matter to help build and execute the cross-functional go-to-market strategy to inform and grow the market for company products, features, and capabilities.
    • Represent the company at industry events and conferences, engaging with potential customers and showcasing our innovative solutions.
    • Drive monetization and engagement by building an online presence with compelling, precisely targeted ad media campaigns.

We're Looking For a Candidate With:

  • At least 3+ years of relevant technical marketing experience, preferably some in a startup environment or other situation where you were a one-person team.
  • All-around technical marketing expertise with proven experience in at least one tech product, whether B2B or consumer.
  • Experience creating video content. You have made and posted some videos on a Youtube channel that has an audience, either one you managed or your own channel.
  • Experience maintaining a website and social media presence.
  • Strong, persuasive communication skills. Show us what content you have created and what makes it so great. We'd love to see your design style – whether that's copy, visuals, demos, or something else that grabs people’s attention. You must be able to write clearly and concisely without errors.
  • A high degree of comfort using online and collaborative tools, especially those in the Google ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated innovative out-of-the-box thinking. You know the playbook but you're not limited by it. Tell us a story about the last product you've marketed. We'd love to know how you've made a company and its products relevant to the intended audience and the market at-large.

Who you are:

  • Someone who loves tech products, and ideally owns some home security cameras.
  • Experienced in communicating effectively with other businesses (i.e. B2B customers)
  • Scrappy in nature. We'd love to see examples of your scrappiness - how have you deployed cost-effective marketing strategies that get the audience's attention?
  • Motivated by the opportunity to own this company's marketing channel and all promotional initiatives from start to finish.
  • Proud of your strong written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for precise articulation of customer engagement. We will need to see some examples that demonstrate this ability.
  • Comfortable building and evolving productive relationships with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Someone who has a genuine appreciation for the early-stage startup culture and a desire to grow responsibilities and scope of work.
  • Someone whose flexible work schedule can accommodate meetings on Pacific time, and occasional collaboration with others in several time zones.
