Under general supervision, incumbent provides immediate supervision to technical and related Nuclear Cardiology personnel. Prepares daily work schedules and ensures efficient day to day operation of the unit; ensures quality assurance of services, serves as a resource and mentor for staff, provides information for Joint Commission compliance, continuing education updates, and exam training. Monitors and maintains supply levels for unit. Reports to Unit Operations Manager.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides immediate supervision, assigns work, evaluates performance, and ensures ongoing training to all personnel assigned.

Ensures proper quality and quantity of work done by unit members. Prepares daily work schedule assuring coverage and reassigns personnel as required to ensure efficient service.

Assures proper documentation of staff personnel for billing and compliance purposes, including exam completion and transmission/archiving of images.

Communicates and coordinates with staff regarding equipment problems, waiting patients, and other like information. Communication to in-house engineers or contract service personnel for equipment repairs to include preventative maintenance.

Works in collaboration with the technical manager of NM and PET, so ensure all Cardiac PET needs are met.

In collaboration with MI QA Manager, organize and maintain quality control for the equipment according to ACR standards.

Ensures proper stock and organization of clinical supplies, office supplies, and linens. Ensures adequacy of emergency cart.

Ensures all clinical licenses and certification documentation are on file and maintained in Peoplesoft.

Interviews, hires, orients, and supervises all technical and clinical support of the designated unit. Provides immediate supervision and corrective action (as needed), assigns work, evaluates performance, and ensures on-going training. Functions as patient-care provider when necessary.

Serves as liaison between physicians and support staff, explaining department procedures, resolving problems, and coordinating activities which affect patient care. Ensures all information regarding procedural or operation changes in the unit is communicated to appropriate Department and Hospital personnel.

Prepares and implements work schedules and project plans; includes work assignments and emergency coverage for evenings, weekends and holidays (as needed). Completes weekly time sheets; approves time off always ensuring adequate staffing. Responsible for all time tracking and reporting of payroll in KRONOS.

Participates in evaluations and recommendations regarding additional equipment and technical protocols; completes new testing procedures and assists in establishing new techniques and protocols.

Works closely with Radiology computer center and with Radiology Quality Management, identifying present and future needs.

Prepares reports for senior management on all aspects of Unit operations as appropriate or as requested.

Coordinates preventive maintenance schedules for imaging and computer equipment with Radiology Department engineers or vendor service personnel; notifies same of equipment failure.

Ensure that all Unit, Department, Hospital and Joint Commission guidelines are met.

Performs the duties of a nuclear medicine/CT technologist as needed. Duties include but not limited to preparation of radiopharmaceuticals, injection and testing of patients, radiation safety techniques, lifting and transporting patients for diagnostic studies, reconstruction, and processing of images. Directs patients in the proper procedure for follow-up medical care, according to physician's instruction.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):

  • Completion of AMA approved nuclear medicine training program and current registration by ARRT or NMTCB and MA Radiation License.

  • Must be certified by the ARRT or NMTCB in both Nuclear Medicine and CT technology

  • Valid license to practice as a radiologic technologist in the state of Massachusetts required

  • CPR certification

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent computer skills

  • Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of the principles of nuclear physics.

  • Knowledge of universal precautions.

  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Ability to provide compassionate care to patients.

  • Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.

  • Ability to lift over 5 lbs.

  • Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of patients of all age groups. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.

  • Must belong to a professional organization and attend at least one conference per year.

  • Must possess working knowledge of Image Distribution systems and image informatics tools used in their respective areas.

  • Must possess working knowledge of operational statistics applications.

  • Must possess working knowledge of Partners applications including but not limited to email, EMR and Peoplesoft.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Should possess 3-5 years of related experience including supervisory experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

  • Manages daily activities of approximately 30 FTE's, all technical and support staff in respective area.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

  • Works in conjunction with the Unit Operations Manager and Finance Team to strategize and implement a budget based on previous years and/or chance in resource capacity. Responsible for monitoring and course correcting as needed to meet fiscal expectations.

  • Understands changes in billing or insurance that could affect revenues.

  • Understands changes in institutional changes that could affect volume.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Conditions range from managing main campus ambulatory and inpatient areas. In performance of duties employee is exposed to radiation, moderate noise, and stress.
