Markel is seeking a talented and passionate leader to join our growing digital team. We want a hands-on, technically-capable, delivery focused leader who is passionate about building software. This role manages multiple agile teams that focus on all aspects of delivery for direct to consumer digital technology from strategic investments and new product deployments to daily operations.
What you'll do
Lead multiple agile teams in coordination with product delivery and Markel operations.
Work closely with a variety of stakeholders (IT and business) to ensure that the design and software deployment aligns with market needs.
Identify emerging technologies and practices and determine how to best apply them to the successful delivery of Markel's digital strategy.
Act as a thought leader in the advancement of digital product and customer experience.
Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact digital customer solutions and shipping things quickly.
Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in all aspects of the team design, code, automation and deployment
Provide overarching vision into the technical and functional delivery of the product maintain the digital roadmap in partnership with the product team.
Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop and contribute towards their careers and professional goals.
Manage operating costs of digital technology and services, ensuring appropriate budgeting and assist in determining ways to be more cost effectively deliver product increments.
As the leader, you will need to understand how to apply technologies in categories such as:
Cloud Computing Services (Azure, AWS, etc.)
Performance and Scaling Techniques
Data Integration Patterns
A team player, keen to coach others and share ideas with your team and across the broader IT organization
Strong technical background with a passion for technology and customer design
A great communicator able to articulate technology to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Continuous learner, seeking out new solutions, and engaging in process improvement.
Able to build relationships and are a trusted advisor to IT and the business.
Some things you have experience with
At least 5 years of managing teams of software engineers and experience in people management
Managing and leading high performing teams utilizing agile delivery methodologies and scaled agile framework
Experience with the cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, etc), CI/CD implementations and techniques, test automation and DevOps feedback loops
Working knowledge of client side frameworks (Angular, Foundation, etc), API design and development, database (SQL and NoSql) and security design considerations
Experience building complex, scalable, high-performance software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
Leveraging metrics to analyze and optimize system performance.
Working in a fast-paced environment across multiple work streams.
Demonstrated collaboration, strong analytical and product management skills.
