Technical Lab Assistant

Per the direction of the section supervisor, performs a variety of clerical and technical processes utilizing independent judgment and maintaining responsibility for assigned duties. Must be familiar with general laboratory procedures. Must be computer literate.

Assists with the required processing of laboratory specimens including but not limited to:

• Performs a variety of clerical and technical procedures to prepare specimens for processing, testing, result review, and verification.

• Verification of specimen identification, centrifugation, and pouring of aliquots.

• Maintains specified equipment, instruments, and supplies.

• Performs certain routine laboratory procedures and operates specified laboratory instruments and equipment.

• Processes add-on requests: locates sample, adds tests to original accession number.

• Checks inventory of supplies and notifies supervisor when ordering may be necessary.

• Maintains work areas in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.

• Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies; adheres to established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.

• Performs other similar or related duties as required or as directed in all sections, areas, and shifts.

• Works closely with technical and clerical staff to maintain communication related to patient testing and sample processing.

• Rotates every third weekend and holiday as assigned.

Required: Ability to handle several processes concurrently. Ability to deal with a wide range of personalities.

Required: Graduate of High School or equivalent.

Preferred: Pursuing Associates or Bachelor degree in science preferred or equivalent.
