DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position requires experience in performing moderately complex, skilled technical installation, maintenance, and repairs of electrical and process equipment. Duties include, but not limited to, system evaluations to make recommendations for process improvements.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLC issues regarding Analog Inputs/Output, Digital Input/Output, Rack Power Supplies, UPS Systems, and associated wiring. Repairs and calibrates all components of process control and analytical systems; troubleshoots and repairs both digital and analog electronic equipment to the component level. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to ensure the work performed is of acceptable quality and that the scope of work has been achieved.
Periodic inspection of completed PM/CMs for quality and reliability will be required. Documentation of daily activities in the Work Management System (INFOR) and maintaining preventive maintenance records.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. Occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than optimal temperature and air conditions.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level.MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Associate's degree (two-year program) in a computer science, instrumentation or electronics discipline or the equivalent, such as certification in a technical/specialty program of up to three years in duration
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four (4) years of experience in the design, installation, operation and/or maintenance of a computerized data communications network or industrial control system are required.
Relevant experience (as described above) may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Depending on area of specialty -- may require a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. In the Houston Public Works Department, may require a valid class "C" or higher Texas Water or Wastewater Plant Operator's license.Preference will be given to the candidate with knowledge of PLC's and a State of Texas Electrical Journeymen License. Preference shall also be given to candidates that possess a valid class "C" or higher Texas Water Plant Operator's license.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
