Job Description
Alabama State University, College of Visual and Performing Arts, invites applications to fill the position of Technical Director/FacilitiesManager. This is a twelve-month full-time staff position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as Technical Director for the department of Theatre Arts
Supervise and maintain the scene shop
Function as master carpenter for the construction of scenic elements in department productions
Maintain shop hours on a daily basis to accommodate Rehearsal & performance scheduling
Supervise and maintain theatrespaces in the
Tullibodyfine Arts Building
Serve as Master carpenter/builder and be responsible for construction methods, materials, mechanics, rigging and maintenance of all scenic elements for Theatre & Dance productions
Supervise safety and maintenance of he scene shop, stage, and all shop equipment through daily/weekly/monthly,, etc. procedures as required
Attend preparation and technical rehearsals in order to coordinate technical and production details production
Determine the necessary technical supports, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of productions dates
Orient facility renters/visiting production to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations; facilitates the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and other engaged by or renting the facility
Serve as the in-hose staff and on-site contact for all events hosted in the facility
Maintains inventory lists and submits requests for needed supplies
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
Make recommendations regarding capital purchases for technical equipment
Organize and maintain organization of the use of shop space, storage areas, and organize and supervise the usage of the stage by Scenery, Props, Electrics and Sound
Space management for Leila Balow Theatre and adjacent spaces
Coordinate closely with facilities management to ensure that the building is maintained on a consistent basis
Periodically walk through the spaces to check for maintenance issues that need to be addressed
Submit requests for repairs in a timely manner;oversee the upkeep of equipment and supplies
Monitorthe condition of equipment and arrange for the repairand replacement within budgetary constraints
Maintain and safeguard he assets of the theatre, and the use and maintenance of theatre space facilities
Provide safety and technical support for events held in the Leila Barlow Theatre as needed and perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
BA or BFA in Theatre Arts, an equivalent combination of education and experience (2 years) in rough and finished carpentry, experience in stage operations, rigging, use of shop equipment, electrical wiring and scenic construction required.
