External Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Technical Director position is a specific opportunity to engage your talents to solve problems for the architectural, engineering, and construction communities by offering creative masonry solutions. Architects don't always see their visions fully realized. Often, designs are changed by decision makers unrelated to the project creation in ways that compromise the value, aesthetics, performance, and design intent of the building and the surrounding community. As the Technical Director you will also participate as a building envelope consultant with Interstate Brick.

You will offer customizable wall assembly solutions that allow architects and engineers to achieve their design intent so that materials are not later substituted. The many inventive facets of our offerings include thin brick, and structural, reinforceable brick for load bearing, panelization, and curtain wall systems, among others.

We are acknowledged not only for our array of products, but also for our solutions-based service to the designers, engineers, specifiers, agencies, associations, dealers, and installers. This service is often long-standing. It is not unusual for our team members and customers to reach tenure of 30-45 years.

Working in concert with our senior Technical Director, the professional we select will impact Interstate Brick's presence, performance, and growth across the industry. WHAT YOU WILL DO…. You will continuously learn more about clay brick, manufacturing, and building systems. You will educate and support sales staff and distributors through technical seminars to architects, engineers, and others across North America.

You will stay on top of industry trends to share with our team though involvement with national associations and industry societies. You will offer creative solutions to challenges that arise in projects through design assistance to other engineers and architects. You will represent us at applicable industry meetings.

You will collaborate on strategies and tactics to continuously improve performance and product offerings. You will author articles and develop technical documents as needed to assist sales efforts. You will participate at the national level with councils, associations, and societies to guide the advancement of brick technology, research, and enclosure sciences for the brick industry.

Examples are: ASTM, TMS, BIA, WSCPA, MCAA, MACS, WS2MA, UL; Various state and regional trade associations, councils and guilds. EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS YOU NEED The collaborative team-builder we need will strive for an environment in which technical knowledge, marketing, and service drives relationships and sales.

This person will also adopt and exhibit the company's core values. Other requirements include: Five to Ten years of design experience in structural engineering.

More is better. Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Master's preferred.

Understanding of building systems and engineering concepts related to structural masonry. Engaging verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate with the sales team, contractors, engineers, architects, and owners. Aptitude for problem solving and negotiating.

Familiarity with codes and standards related to clay masonry. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and, preferably, a drawing program (i.e., SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.).
