Supervise the construction and use of Eastern Michigan University Theatre scenery and equipment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Operate, maintain, and safeguard theatre facilities and technical assets of the theatre and scene shop.
Train and Supervise students when building scenery, regulating lights, operating audio equipment, and serving on stage crews for all Eastern Michigan University Theatre productions.
Determine technical needs and support necessary for performances presented in Quirk, Sponberg, & Lab theatres in advance of production dates.
Hold and supervise established and consistent shop hours for students to work on productions presented in Quirk, Sponberg, and Lab theatres.
Design, Set up, arrange, and operate theatre/stage lighting, projection, and audio systems for productions in Quirk, Sponbeg & Lab Theatres.
Attend all crew technical and dress rehearsals for Theatre Mainstage productions to oversee technical operations.
Maintain materials and equipment in Theatre. Assist with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintain equipment, inventory, and order supplies as necessary.
Assist groups from outside the Speech and Dramatic Arts Depart-ment in the proper use of Theatre materials and equipment.
Provide input on set design feasibility, cost, and materials to the Director of Theatre.
Collaborate with faculty designers to supervise students in the construction of scenery from designer's final drawings.
Produce technical drawings as necessary to facilitate construction of sets for theatre productions
Provide designs for assigned productions, in areas which may include scenery, lighting, sound, projection, and properties.
Provide technical support and consultation for Second Stage productions, Lab Theatre bills, Drama Day, and local and university events as requested.
Provide support and mentorship for students working on applied production projects.
Perform related Departmental duties, as required.
Knowledge and skills in stage lighting systems, audio systems and set construction, theatrical carpentry, computer networking and functional CAD experience, and stage rigging typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, are necessary.
Three years directly related work experience is necessary.
Master's degree is desirable.
