Position Summary

The Technical Director serves as a key member of the theatre department, overseeing various aspects of theatrical productions and providing technical support for university productions. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of theatre production, be skilled in design and technical elements, and have a proven ability to manage and lead.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as director of a minimum of one annual production including service as the production's director and dramaturge; collaborate with Director of Theater to oversee set construction, costumes, lighting and makeup personnel for the production.

  • Serve as technical leader for CUW productions including design elements (lighting, sound, set construction)

  • Teach one class each semester (fall/spring)

  • Maintain the Todd Wehr Auditorium and all of its auxiliary spaces (this includes, but is not limited to, regularly straightening and cleaning areas, before and after productions, and at the end of each semester; manage Auditorium space requests)

  • Maintain inventory of theatre-related props, costumes, and equipment in designated storage areas.

  • Serve as main point of contact between Admissions and theatre, meet with prospective students, and support recruitment efforts to increase student participation in theatre productions and enrollment in the theatre minor.

  • Serve as box office manager including set-up of ticketing system for each show and coordination of student workers/alumni workers; collaborate with Director of Theatre/business office in collection of ticket sale proceeds.

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theatre production including proficiency in two or more of the following: set design, lighting, sound design, costume design and stage directing.

  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute complex production schedules

  • Experience with technical equipment

  • Ability to recruit, mentor, and lead student and staff in a collaborative environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree (MA or MFA) in Theatre or a related field

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in theatre production or a related field

  • Experience in teaching college-level theatre courses preferred

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) staff position. The starting wage may be determined upon education and/or experience. Tuition benefits are available for employees; however, there are no other benefits associated with this position.
