Job Description Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Develops and maintains product/business unit accounting policies, practices and standards to meet regulatory and management requirements.

Directs the recording, consolidation, arrangement, reporting and preservation of all financial data. Provides accounting consultation, assistance and service to leadership and other internal customers.

RELATIONSHIP: Reports to Accounting Officer/Executive. May have up to 3 direct reports.

CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Directs the accounting, preparation, analysis and required filing of all relative financial statements and related data and exhibits.
2.Directs the preparation, analysis and filing of financial statements and other reports for internal and external sources.
3.Reviews, advises, counsels and participates actively concerning new systems developments and other systems related matters to ensure accuracy of all financial data.
4.Manages special projects/assignments as directed by senior management.
5.Provides advise, counsel and assistance concerning accounting policies and practices.
6.Responds to applicable inquiries from State Insurance Departments, internal and external auditors and other regulatory agencies. Provides financial information to various Nationwide offices to be used in the support of other filing, analysis and reporting requirements.
7.Directs the preparation of special reports, analyses and financials as requested by management and external agencies.
8.Represents officer/executive as assigned. May attend trade association meetings as Company representative.
9.Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting or finance. Post graduate level studies desirable.

Licenses/Registration: Progress towards CPA preferred.

Experience: Ten years accounting experience in insurance or financial services industry.

Knowledge:
GAAP and/or STAT accounting, tax and systems principles.

Insurance accounting principles, practices and procedures. Insurance regulatory requirements. Management policies, practices and procedures.

Skills/Competencies: Advanced verbal and written communication skills for contact with all levels of associates including business unit leadership, external parties such as public accountants, state examiners, industry professionals, and other clients.

Ability to analyze and solve accounting problems, interpret financial statements and data, analyze legal requirements, examine and monitor accounting cycles and flows, and review general ledger entries and audit work papers and schedules. Ability to direct associates in all aspects of assigned accounting record maintenance, financial statement preparation, and special projects.

TITLE Lead Analyst, Technical Accounting LOCATION Orrville, OH (Close proximity to Cleveland/Akron) REPORTS TO Manager, Financial Compliance POSITION SUMMARY This role leads all financial regulatory compliance efforts for the Company. This individual is responsible for regulatory monitoring, including review of daily publications and technical literature, as well as cross functional coordination with Finance teams who could be impacted by upcoming regulatory changes. This role will lead Finance projects in collaboration with the functions impacted by new accounting standards, including implementation procedures and SOX controls. This individual will lead quarterly regulatory meetings with Finance leadership and serve as a technical accounting expert, assisting with research, large transactions including acquisitions/divestitures and debt offerings, Accounting Policy Library review, and peer reviews. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Lead financial regulatory compliance for the Company. This includes monitoring and researching new accounting guidance, assessing the impact to the Company, and communicating results to cross functional teams and leadership. * Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and support any Finance projects or functions that are impacted. This includes working with Financial Compliance to develop new process flows and risk control matrixes, evaluating areas of risk or control gaps, and educating project teams on documentation requirements and SOX impact. * Support the implementation and ongoing governance of the Accounting Policy Library. This includes training coordination with policy owners, guidance review, and serving as the Sharepoint site administrator. * Assist on cross-functional projects that impact financial reporting/SOX. Role will support large routine and non-routine transactions, including acquisitions/divestitures, hedging, revenue recognition, leases, restructuring, debt offerings, impairment, and tax. * Assist on technical accounting research and peer reviews, as needed.
