The Position

This is a temporary contractor assignment. The individual in this role will be employed by a third party, not by Genentech.

MPG, in the Cell Culture and Bioprocess Operations department, is responsible for providing support from Early Stage Research to launch products through the development and maintenance of our cell culture platform.

We are looking for a motivated candidate with medium formulation, cell culture and sterile technique experience to join our team to enable a robust upstream bioprocess at Genentech. This role will be in support of a large project focussed on understanding raw material variation within our cell culture processes.

The primary functions will include characterization of cell culture components, weighing and formulating of cell culture medium, and conducting cell culture based assays. Experience with working with external vendors is preferred as well as a strong background in statistical analysis of large datasets. The additional responsibilities associated with these functions include: equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, lab management, coordinating sample submission,scheduling and tracking with external testing lab, data review and management, and troubleshooting.

The candidate must be highly self-motivated, organized, detail oriented and responsive to feedback. The candidate is expected to precisely follow written procedures, practice sterile technique, demonstrate accurate documentation skills, and report deviations in a timely manner. They should be able to work independently within guidelines and policies, with minimal guidance.

Up to 20% travel between South San Francisco and Vacaville, Ca can be expected in this role.

Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S (with 0-4yrs relevant experience) or M.S. (with 0-2 yrs relevant experience) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields

  • Non-GMP laboratory experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have strong collaborative skills.

Preferred

  • Trace Metal impurity analysis of ICP-MS data sets.

  • Upstream bioprocess experience with Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells (CHO)

  • Knowledge of cell biology, cell engineering, molecular biology, recombinant protein purification and protein characterization is preferred

  • The expected pay rate for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $35 - $55 hourly. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
