Summary

The Technical Designer is responsible for assisting in the monitoring and coordinating of garment technical development from design development to production through the creation of garment specs, actively collaborating in fit sessions, overseeing technical issues, and communicating solutions to vendor partners. This position requires a self-motivated, creative thinker with a high level of attention to detail, who is eager to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure size and fit consistency within the brand and across product categories through the creation and maintenance of Tech Packs that accurately capture all aspects of design, including garment measurements, grading, and detailed technical sketches and construction details.

  • Collaborate with design and purchasing teams to ensure the desired direction is achieved and on time.

  • Fitting preparation, including scheduling fit sessions, measuring garments, visually checking interior and exterior construction to ensure the minimum requirement of standards are met, and making sure fit direction was followed.

  • Participate in fit sessions on live models and/or dress forms to ensure proper fit, balance, and construction of samples.

  • Communicate with overseas vendors regarding garment specifications including: sending out tech packs, measuring samples against sizes sets, and effectively communicating fit corrections and detailed garment corrections.

  • Execute and monitor seasonal styles from development to production to maintain the production calendar, and escalate to management accordingly.

  • Product and garment testing as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel/Textiles, or equivalent industry experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience and/or training in technical design, product development, or patternmaking.

  • Working knowledge of the PLM system

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator

  • Understanding of garment manufacturing and product development process from inception through production.

  • In-depth knowledge of tech packs, specs & grading, patterns, and garment construction.

  • Strong technical drawing skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Takes appropriate and timely action on individual tasks and projects to achieve objectives and meet deadlines by demonstrating strong planning and organizational skills, and asks for help when needed.

  • Exceptional ability to multitask, with a high sense of urgency, punctuality, and timeliness.

  • Enjoys engaging with others for creative solutions

  • Possess a positive and dependable attitude

  • Adaptable and flexible to the changing needs of the business/department

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Office, Manufacturing, and Warehousing Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse, manufacturing, and office areas.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
